Of the more than 6.5 million war baby M1s cranked out by the Arsenal of Democracy, International Business Machine Corporation, known for their typewriters and adding machines, delivered about 350,000 from their plant in Poughkeepsie, New York. Other oddball makers included jukebox maker Rock-Ola, National Postal Meter (guess what they made) and IBM’s competitor in the typewriter game– Underwood Elliot-Fisher.
