Video Captures the Moment Saturday’s Deadly 7.8 Earthquake Hit Ecuador
The numbers keep changing, but as of reporting this 272 people have been killed and over 2,500 injured when the largest earthquake to hit Ecuador in years struck off the nation’s central coast at 6:58 p.m. Saturday evening.
Video captured as the quake struck shows people terrified and confused as the earth began to shake and the lights went out in a large store.
A state of emergency has been declared and over ten thousands soldiers and police were deployed on the streets to help search for survivors among the rubble. The president of Ecuador called the earthquake the worst tragedy to hit the nation in 67 years.

This comes just a few days after massive tremors hit Japan, including one at 7.3 that trapped over a thousand people after another earthquake killed nine people there.
A total of seven major earthquakes have now hit in the last four days, and experts are warning that all these large quakes and unrest around the so-called “ring of fire” in the Pacific could be leading up to “the big one”.
