Walther Q5 aims to reign on the match scene

Walther Arms, now based in Arkansas, recently heralded the mid-April release of the Q5 Match pistol.
The company produced the new 9mm to meet the demands of the production class competitor. Their line of competition pistols, of which the Q5 Match is a member, is a branch of the PPQ pistol family tree.
Primary among the Q5’s match-friendly features is an integrated optic mount system. It accommodates the Trijicon RMR, Leupold Delta Point, and Docter Red Dot optics. Adjustable fiber optic target sights back up the red dot.
The 5.6-pound blue “quick defense” trigger has 0.4 inches of travel, including distance to disengage the safety block. Reset is a quick 0.1 inches. Walther CEO Adam Blalock calls it “the best out-of-the-box trigger in the business.”
The pistol features a five-inch barrel and it travels in a competition-style lightened slide. Overall length of the Q5 is 8.1 inches, height is 5.3 inches, and it weighs 26 ounces unloaded.
Under the barrel, a length of Picatinny rail will accommodate most weapon-mounted lights. Magazine capacity is a modest 15 rounds. Walther adds value by including three in the box.
The grips are ergonomic Carl Walther style. Interchangeable backstraps are included for a custom fit. Safety features include drop-safe design and a trigger block.
Although the gun is making its way to stores as of this writing, the professional shooters of Team Walther are already competing with the Q5 Match at IDPA, USPSA, and three-gun contests. The pistol retails for $849.
