Obama Planning to Issue More Anti-Gun Executive Orders
It’s been six months since President Obama first issued several gun control based executive orders. These measures were aimed at making gun dealers responsible for weapons that go missing, required gun owners who sell their weapons online and at gun shows to be licensed, and added more staff to the FBI for the purpose of running background checks, among other measures.
Now it appears that he may be preparing to take another crack at the Second Amendment. On Tuesday the President chastised the Senate for failing to pass four new gun control laws, and said in a tweet “Gun violence requires more than moments of silence. It requires action. In failing that test, the Senate failed the American people.”
And during a recent press conference, White House press secretary Josh Earnest revealed that the president was “profoundly frustrated” by the Senate’s failure to pass any new gun control laws. “The president is determined to continue to use his executive authority to do everything possible to keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have them.”
The last time Obama tried this, he was careful to issue executive orders that weren’t likely to be challenged in court, which wound up being measures that had little effect on our right to bear arms. He essentially did all that a president could legally do without worrying about Congress or the Supreme Court. Which has to make you wonder, what else could he possibly be planning to do next?
