“If I wasn’t nervous, I’d be stupid”: Man to Skydrive from 25,000 Feet on Live TV WITHOUT a Parachute
Luke Aikins, a stuntman in Ironman 3 and skydiver who has made over 18,000 parachute jumps will be jumping out of a plane at 25,000 feet without a parachute or any gear on live TV Saturday.
The two-minute jump will be part of an hour-long special on Fox aptly called “Heaven Sent”.
“If I wasn’t nervous I would be stupid,” the compact, muscular athlete says with a grin as he sits under a canopy near Saturday’s drop zone.
“We’re talking about jumping without a parachute, and I take that very seriously. It’s not a joke,” he adds.
Claiming, “I’m trying to show that it can be done,” Aikins is attempting to land in a giant net a third of a football field wide held 20-stories high by two cranes. Aikins believes he can land without bouncing out.
They’ve been testing it with 200-pound dummies. In one of the tests, the dummy crashed right through the net.
The broadcast will be on tape delay… just in case.
