A woman in Texas captured video from the George Bush Freeway in Dallas yesterday as hundreds of law enforcement, friends and family made their way to Plano to bury Dallas police Senior Corporal Lorne Ahrens, who was killed in last week’s ambush.
Kelly McGill, who works as a teacher at the University of Dallas, was on her way home from work when she captured the six-minute video, which she later posted on Facebook. In the post, she noted that her videotaping capacity was limited on her phone, but altogether the procession took about half an hour to pass. According to McGill, law enforcement from Ohio, Oklahoma, Illinois, New York, Arkansas, and from cities from all across Texas were in attendance. Scores of other people could be seen in McGill’s video, stopped on the opposite side of the freeway as the procession passed.
McGill noted in her post that she worries about her father, who is a more than 20 year veteran of the police force. But she also said she worries for those who have experienced negative encounters with the police, adding that she herself has had a less than desirable experience with “an overzealous cop” that left her feeling violated.
“Let us remember that one bad apple DOESN’T always ruin the whole basket if we are paying attention and remove it before the damage is done. Stereotypes don’t help anyone!” she concluded.
The video has garnered over 3 million views in just over 24 hours.
