The Hillary Clinton campaign on Sunday again urged the FBI to explain why it was revisiting the Clinton email investigation and said the candidate has not talked to top aide Huma Abedin on whose laptop the new emails were purportedly found — nearly three full days after the department announced the new probe.
“She hasn’t,” campaign manager Robby Mook told “Fox News Sunday.”
On Thursday, FBI Director James Comey notified lawmakers about a new batch of emails possibly “pertinent” to its Clinton email investigation, while working on a case related to Abedin’s husband, former New York Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner, “sexting” a teenage girl on a laptop he purportedly shared with his wife.
Clinton, hours later, in a hastily called news conference, declined to answer a reporter’s question about whether she had spoken directly to Abedin, a close, long-time aide.
“I want to know what’s in these emails too,” Mook said Sunday, arguing that Comey has yet to specifically say whether the agency is looking at Abedin emails. “It could be anyone in the world.”
The FBI this summer wrapped up a roughly one-year investigation into Clinton using a private Internet server system while secretary of state from 2009 to 2013.
The Clinton campaign has suggested in the past couple of days that the release of Comey’s letter 10 days before Election Day to committee chairmen of the GOP-control Congress is political motivated and in fact is a breach of FBI protocol, in addition to repeatedly calling on the director to provide more details to the American people.
Everyone wants to have answer,” Mook said Sunday. “Comey should put out answers. … This letter is innuendo.”
