The Veterans Affairs hospital in Hines, Illinois, has come under flak for negligence and misbehavior in the past, but this newest development may be the most serious.
Allegedly, officials at the Edward Hines Jr. VA hospital has just been leaving bodies to rot in the morgue.
An informant told Fox News that not only did they leave veteran’s bodies undisposed of, but they did it despite having the resources to give them a proper burial.
The source said that “some veteran’s remains have been left in our hospital morgue for 45 days or more until they are stacked to capacity at times.”
Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk’s deputy chief of staff Alissa McCurley has alleged that, on at least one occasion, “a body had liquefied and the bag burst when staff had attempted to move it.”
That’s not a story about an atrocity overseas — it’s right here.
Kirk was understandably incensed and told Fox News of other problems he has been informed of with the same hospital.
“Hines VA,” he said, “the hospital that has been overrun with cockroaches and mold and left vets waiting for care for months on secret wait lists, has reached a new low in the treatment of our veterans.”
Hines hospital, of course, denied the allegations wholeheartedly.
“We take whistleblower allegations very seriously and absolutely agree that all of our veterans deserve dignity and respect, in life and in death,” hospital spokesman Rick Fox told Fox News.
