Carjacker tries to hit officer gets care, cop gets admin leave
True to form, the local newspaper omits an important detail in describing Reggi Martinez, the 24-year-old identified by Scottsdale police as the carjacker who, after forcing the owner from his car, attempted to run over a police officer.
According to the news report, which includes Martinez’ photo, this lowlife also “led officers on a chase through the city and, at one point, triggered a crash.” He collided with two vehicles in an intersection.
The criminal received free medical care at a local hospital and a bed and nourishment after being booked in jail.
The news account says the name of the officer who shot at the stolen car — which was aimed at a second officer — has not been released, although the officer has been placed on administrative leave. The officer should be acclaimed as a hero.
What is the need for this abundance of caution resulting in a penalty for the police officer who was trying to keep his fellow officer from being seriously injured or killed?
And Martinez? What the newspaper report omits is his status. Is he an American citizen, an illegal or one of those unverifiable “dreamers” who give the rest of us nightmares?
