As the winter months approach so do colds and flu. Some assossiatte this to warmer winter clothes, getting cozy under a blanket with snacks and movies or having fresh veggies. Due to low temperatures and illness winter can be quite dangerous. Sneezing, coughing and runny noses are common. However, you don’t have to rush to the doctor immediately. You can use home remedies to help yourself.
1. Sweet mix
Mix 200g sugar, 300ml water, 1 tbsp white mallow 1tbsp chamomile, 6 bay leaves, 1 tbsp sage and heat it. You should get a brown liquid. Remove it from the heat. Once it has cooled down place it in a bottle. Older people and babies can consume 1 tbsp while kids 2 tbsps daily.
2. Pungent punch
Containing antioxidants and allicin, garlic is a great cure for colds and coughs. it kills bacteria fungi and viruses. If you want to cure a cough, heat up some ghee and put 5 crushed garlic gloves in. Or you can mix juice form 4 gloves, 2 tomatoes and lemon. Add salt and you get a soup.
3. Yellow panacea
This is turmeric which kills viruses. It has curcuma and oils that help with colds and coughs. Mix a tbsp of turmeric in a glass of milk and heat it up, adding honey in the end. You can make turmeric tea as well by boiling 4 cups of water and adding 1 tbsp od turmeric powder. Strain it after 10minutes. If you want you can addd honey or lemon.
Use 4 cardamom pods, 4corns black pepper, ginger slices, cinnamon and 4 gloves to make tea. Once it is boiling let it simmer for 15 minutes and strain it. You can add honey or milk. You can also make a paste from ginger juice and powder from roasted pepper corns. Add turmeric and honey and mix it to a paste. Make toffees from the paste and suck on it 3 times per day.
5. Leaf therapy
You can make tea from basil and tulsi. Just add 15 leaves to 1.5 cup of water, boil 10 minutes and then strain it. Add lemon if you like. Another tea could make is from neem. Add 3 leaves to half a glass of boiling water. Add 1 tbsp of honey once it’s cold. Another thing you could do is crush betel leaves and add 1 tbsp of honey. Take it twice a day 30 minutes after a meal to relive wet cough.
