You Are Not Required to Talk to the Police
I took a minute to ask him if he was being detained and to advise him of the fact that he was not required to hang around and interact with the officer unless he was being detained. Often times people feel they are required to stop and interact with the police, whenever they are asked to, but that is untrue.
Regardless of the length, ALL police interactions are hostage situations. Don’t believe me? Try leaving and see what happens. I guarantee an end result of violence, caging and potentially death. In this case the man being detained was only inconvenienced and not arrested or brutalized, still watching state actors demand someones papers never sits well with me.
The police aren’t your friends. They aren’t interested making small talk with you. What you did last week or what movie you saw last night are the furthest things from their mind. All they care about is extracting information that may lead to your potential conviction – even if you aren’t guilty of anything.
- Remain silent. As I stated above the police are not your friends and are only interested in incriminating you.
- Ask if you are being detained or if you are free to go? The police have to tell you if you are being detained. They do not have to tell you if you are not.
- Film the police. Preferably live stream. Even when detained you have the right to film the police and doing so can and will protect you from overzealous police who feel entitled by their badge.

And if they come to your front door you aren’t even required to answer the door OR let them know you’re even there OR speak with them about ANYTHING !!! IF they have a VALID warrant they’ll let YOU know Loud and Clear otherwise it’s just Harassment of you by them PERIOD !!!
If they come to my door I will gladly tell them what they want to know. I am not a criminal.
Better them at my door trying to gather info to take down some home invasion suspects than a bunch of illegals wanting to take my shit from me at my door.
This is bullshit. All of this anti-cop nonsense is just more ghetto mentality rhetoric.
I remember when cops really DID abuse their power and beat the shit out of poor people.
And it was NOT only black people, it was anyone they viewed as being unable to defend themselves, either physically or financially. Cops weren’t racists back then, they were pricks to everyone.
Even then, I always respected them. I am an old hippie, I have had cops try to corner me to get me to do something stupid so they could have an excuse to beat my ass all the way downtown.
But I have never once been arrested. Because I simply cooperated with them and let them know I was not a threat to them or anyone else.
Now cops can’t get away with nothing. In fact, the physical standards have been lowered so much that most cops wouldn’t stand a chance in a bar fight in a biker bar.
The days of cops being physically imposing men is over.
And so are the days of cops getting away with abusing people.
Sure, it happens now and then, but most of what we see in the news is cops doing their jobs and some wart getting scraped off of societies ass.
If a cop wants to stop me and ask me questions, that is fine with me.
In fact, I think cops should be allowed to stop anyone and ask them for proof of citizenship, and if they cannot prove they belong in this country, the cops should be required to take them to the hoosegow until they can either establish identity or turn them over to the INS.
While I do agree that you should always “choose to remain silent’ when dealing with the police for any matter and they are not supposed to just stop you for any reason, they can and do this all the time.
That said, the police are trained to do what they do as revenue officers for the corporate town, city, county, state they are collecting the revenue for… I think most have their heart(and I know quite few myself personally) in the right place and just want to do a good job, of course this is the way they were trained. Their job is hard enough as it is, and they deserve our support when doing it in a matter that serves and protects, because I can tell you that if there was some type of emergency coming your way and you didn’t have the ability to stop it yourself you would want these first responders there to help out in any way they can.
It’s up to us to know how to not fall victim to the ploys of the uniform commercial code and statues that were enacted to keep us under certain jurisdictions by unknowingly contracting with certain authorities. If someone doesn’t know this it is no one’s fault but their own.
In the days before radio or TV all people had to entertain themselves was books, and the two most books in the country that everyone had were a bible and law books, it isn’t that way any more, but that is no one’s fault but those who are too caught up with everything else but the very system of country and how the (scam) legal system works.
When I was young this country was not overrun with criminals who are here without permission, and the ghetto mindset was only in some small neighborhoods, not part of mainstream society as it is now.
Back then cops were that busy, now they are overwhelmed, especially in our ghetto cities.
I cooperate with them, I know the cops are too goddamned busy to mess with innocent people.
It isn’t for me to assume they stopped me for no reason, for all I know they stopped me because I look like a dude that just beat up an old lady or something stupid.
I want to help the cops do their job, not get in their way. After all, it could be that the criminal they are chasing could victimize me or one of my family members next if not caught.
Sadly, part of the ghetto mindset is to have contempt and mistrust for cops, but to pamper and encourage animals who have no respect for the rights of others.
I have a feeling most of the time cops shoot someone it is because they are investigating a crime and are met with hatred and resistance by social misfits who are also intellectual dwarfs.
The Anti cop people are the first ones that call 911 when someone steals their drugs. I have always been respectful to police, and am glad to have them around! It does amaze now in this day and age, why anyone would want be in a law enforcement role?
I have the utmost respect for the men and women in Blue!
