MEET THE NEWEST D-WAVE QUANTUM COMPUTER.

Yesterday I reported on the announcement from D-Wave Systems regarding the release of the latest model of their adiabatic quantum computer. The new model is called the 2000Q & comes in at a cost of $15 million & a company called Temporal Defence Systems have snapped the first one up!

As covered in the above reports, Anthony Patch has been proven correct once again. Just as Anthony has said on many occasions, the actual number of qubits (quantum bits) in the news model is not 2000, but actually 2048.

If this is the one being spoken about in public, we can only wonder as to what kind of things they are working on behind the scenes.

QUANTUM MEMORY.

With the advancements in quantum computing occurring all the time, and the amount of data that it works with is also increasing. The world in which we live now is constantly producing more & more data, so new ways are need to store these vast databases of information.

Today, Phys.org announced that scientists have just had a breakthrough in experiments working on what they are calling “quantum memory”.

Much like the quantum computer uses quantum bits over classical bits, quantum memory aims to utilise the strange effects of quantum mechanics to bring about the next revolution in memory storage.

Classical bits of information are stored as 1’s or 0’s, but when we move into the quantum realm there is something called “Superposition” that allows a particle to hold two different states at one time.

When it comes to studying transportation systems, stock markets and the weather, quantum mechanics is probably the last thing to come to mind. However, scientists at Australia’s Griffith University and Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University have just performed a ‘proof of principle’ experiment showing that when it comes to simulating such complex processes in the macroscopic world quantum mechanics can provide an unexpected advantage…

…Einstein once said that “God does not play dice with the universe,” voicing his disdain with the idea that quantum particles contain intrinsic randomness.

“But theoretical studies showed that this intrinsic randomness is just the right ingredient needed to reduce the memory cost for modelling partially random statistics,” says Dr Mile Gu, a member of the team who developed the initial theory.

In contrast with the usual binary storage system – the zeroes and ones of bits – quantum bits can be simultaneously 0 and 1, a phenomenon known as quantum superposition.

The researchers, in their paper published in Science Advances, say this freedom allows quantum computers to store many different states of the system being simulated in different superpositions, using less memory overall than in a classical computer.

The team constructed a proof-of-principle quantum simulator using a photon – a single particle of light – interacting with another photon.

QUANTUM CRAZINESS & AI.

With the rise of quantum computing, and now quantum memory, we are creating a machine that will eventually become a fully autonomous Artificial Super Intelligence.

Just where AI is at the moment is hard to gauge, but its here & its most certainly not going away. IBM’s “Watson” is just one of a number of AI systems now being used in business & health care to help improve on our current systems.

People like Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking & others are today again airing their concern as to where the race for AI will lead.

The way I see it, the first government/cabal that creates the first fully operational AI will have domination over everything & everyone else. Any other country or group creating a competing AI system will be identified and attacked by the functioning AI in an attempt to preserve & improve itself.

The programmers of the AI may be powerless to make changes if things go wrong as the AI will re-write the code it runs on and lock out anyone trying to access it.

It sounds like a plot from a sci-fi movie, but this the real world we are now living in.
