Terran note: this tunnel is is literally from one side of the continent to the other from Chile.  There are faster boring technologies than are available to the civilian sector or they started this a long time ago!  The Chinese are renown for their long term planning…

Terran: It seems it goes to the Chinese base in Antarctica  [ Zhongshan Station ]

Terran note: China is a signatory to the Antarctica treaty and mining is forbidden. This area is also now an ecological preserve but this station was built before that treaty was signed.¹
