Offended Mexican Businessman Creates Trump Toilet Paper

Mexican businessman and lawyer Antonio Battaglia will begin producing toilet paper under the slogan “softness without borders” after being offended by some things Donald Trump has said.  The toilet paper is meant to throw shade at the president after Battaglia took offense to some of the words spoken during the US presidential campaign.

Battaglia’s trademark for the spoof Trump toilet paper was approved in October 2015 (long before Trump even got the Republican nomination for president), according to the institute’s records. Mexico’s Institute of Industrial Property has granted Trump’s company trademarks on his name in sectors such as construction, hotels, tourism, real estate and financial services. But the Trump Organization didn’t bother to cover what’s referred to in Spanish as “hygienic paper.”

Battaglia said he was “really bothered” when Trump launched his presidential bid by characterizing migrants who enter the US illegally as criminals, drug runners, and rapists. “My thinking was: We can’t keep quiet, right?” he said by telephone from the central Mexican city of Leon. “So with this insult that was made, (I figured) I’m going to add my grain of sand in response.”

A lawyer for the Trump Organization did not respond to phone messages and emails seeking comment. But Trump has been aggressive about protecting his brand when he feels it is being encroached upon. Battaglia claims he’s well within his rights because his packaging doesnt’ show an exact replica of the president.  It shows a grinning cartoon character giving an enthusiastic thumbs-up. He’s right, it’s not an exact likeness of Trump, but its swooping blond locks are a clear nod to the president’s famous hairdo.  The character is similar enough too, that Trump may be able to shut down the production of this product.  But only time will tell if he’ll go that far. Battaglia also argued he is well within Mexican law as the legal trademark-holder, with no direct link between his product and Donald Trump or his image.

This toilet paper is expected to go to production by the end of the year, and Battaglia is promising 30% of the proceed will go to programs which support migrants. Until then, you could simply purchase a sticker instead while patiently awaiting the release of this “hygienic paper.”

Maybe the toilet paper is a little over the top, or maybe it’s just funny. But there’s nothing wrong with having a laugh at a politician’s expense.
