The Antarctic is one of the coldest locations on earth but below the ice and outer rock layer of the earth’s crust it’s just as hot as anywhere else. There seems to be a simmering geothermal lake below the ice that produces enough steam to melt the hole in the ice cap that eye witnesses have recently reported. The hole probably opens and closes in different decades and centuries depending on climate change. German explorers or aircraft pilots may have discovered the hole in the 1940′s. Archaeologists probably expect to find concentrated and extremely valuable resources of rare and precious metals in this location. Explorers are probably trying to probe the size of the hidden lake so that another tunnel can be drilled down through the ice and link up with the naturally occurring hole. The plan would be to use the flow of steam from the lake to melt and enlarge the man-made borehole to produce a second big hole in the ice cap. Then geothermal energy can be used to cause a convection current that draws fresh air down the man-made tunnel and blows it out with the steam emerging from the lake. This would create a hospitable environment on the shores of the lake for human habitation. The reason for the top-secret classification of this work is that the Antarctic Treaty of 1959-1988 includes control over the continent’s mineral resources. The top-secret work is therefore carried out under the guise of mere scientific exploration. But we know how money talks and as international conflicts over dwindling supplies of natural resources escalates, the major world powers are planning to seize control of all the earth’s natural resources and Antarctica seems to be a strategic top priority.
