Astronomers have observed a gigantic storm on Neptune so big it covers an area almost the size of Earth while testing a telescope on Hawaii.  The huge storm is about 9,000 kilometers in length, or one-third the size of Neptune’s radius. It spans at least 30 degrees in both latitude and longitude, and was spotted during a dawn test run of a Hawaii observatory.  Seeing a storm this bright at such a low latitude is extremely surprising. This massive storm system was found in a region where no bright cloud has ever been seen before.

Something is happening out there and even experts have been left baffled because the cyclone seems to break the laws of physics and meteorology.

August is historically the beginning of the annual ramp up of hurricane season in the Atlantic, and right on cue, there are a couple of areas to watch in the Atlantic through next week.  There have been five Atlantic tropical storms so far this season, but all of them were short-lived. Four of those storms did affect land, mainly with heavy rain.  Here’s a look at whether we’ll see our next named storm during the days ahead.

The National Hurricane Center has designated an area of disturbed weather near the coast of Africa Invest 99L. This is a naming convention used to identify features that could form into a tropical depression or tropical storm. As of Thursday evening, the NHC says Invest 99L has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression by early next week, but this may occur sooner.  Invest 99L is forecast to move west or west-northwest along the southern periphery, of high pressure during the next five days toward the central Atlantic.

The NHC says atmospheric conditions are expected to be conducive to the formation of a tropical depression or tropical storm. The next named Atlantic storm will be Franklin.

Seismic Update 4 August 2017: borderline to low M 6 expected 6-7 August

On the 5th Mercury lines up with the Sun and Saturn. This will produce a higher 5 to low magnitude 6 earthquakes on the 6th and possibly also on the 7th.

Incredibly low to the ground photogenic thunderstorm clouds over Arizona!

A photogenic wild thunderstorm rolled through today putting on quite the aerial display. Some of the impressive but relatively harmless clouds seemed low enough to touch! 
One cloud formation you will see in the video was VERY low above a main thoroughfare, probably 300ft off of the ground and began to rotate. I stayed on it thinking we might be about to witness a twister forming. Never completely organized but still made for some great photos.
