Mermaid Inspired Makeup Tutorial

Can we be completely honest? Personally, we think being a mermaid would be so fun. Maybe it’s the beautiful colors on their tails, the vibe that they can go wherever they want or the fact that they live in the ocean, but overall, being a mermaid sounds like it would super fun.

But we’re realists here at Luminess and know that it’s not possible to be a mermaid. (If you are still dreaming of being one, keep dreaming beauties, believe in yourself!) But that doesn’t mean you can’t add some #MermaidInspo into your life.

We’ve blushed over our gal pal Michelle with Mash-Elle.com in the past (a lot actually, because she’s what BFF dreams are made of), but her latest makeup tutorial all inspired by mermaids is probably one of our favorites.

Michelle blogged about her seven steps she used to create her mermaid inspired makeup, but we’re only going to share some of our favorite tips from her tutorial – and yes, she used Luminess Airbrush for most of it!

Step One: Foundation

Step Two: Contour + Highlight 

“If mermaids applied makeup, I’m 99.9% sure they would be all about that contour and highlight life. Contouring and highlighting gives the illusion of a slimmer face. First, apply your favorite bronzer under your cheekbones to give yourself chiseled cheekbones. I applied bronzer with my airbrush system beginning from my hairline and spraying towards my lips. Then, I applied a small amount to the sides of my nose to make my nose look smaller. Next up: highlight! Mermaids have glowing skin, so use a pearlized highlighter to add a bit of shimmer to your face. I use Pearlizer Shimmer (P-4) on the bridge of my nose, above my cheekbones and in the center of my forehead to achieve the perfect summer glow.”

Step 3: Eyebrows

“Now it’s time to take your mermaid inspired makeup to the next level. Mermaids are famous for their array of jewel toned colors (think purple, green, blue) so it’s time to pull out the fun eye shadow hues. I used Luminess VIP eye shadow palette as it comes with 36 gorgeous eyes shadow shades in a range of finishes. To begin, I mixed the first two shades in the first vertical row and applied them underneath my eyebrow, in the inner lid and inner lower lash line. This gives the perfect highlight affect by brightening my eyes. Next, I applied the 6th shadow in the 4th vertical row (the turquoise shade!) to my lid and lower lash line. To achieve the most vibrant color possible, I first wet my brush and then dipped it into the eye shadow. I seriously adore this eye shadow shade. I then mixed the same color with the final shadow in the 5th vertical row (the silver shade) and applied in my crease to create depth.”
