Trump-hating AZ Republic focuses on “The Wall”

Many of us remember a John Hershey novel as required college reading. ‘The Wall,’ set in the WWII era was not a new publication, but the chilling account of the monstrous, dehumanizing evil of the Warsaw ghetto and the valiant efforts to escape the Nazi’s “final solution,” captured our attention.

The same title has been co-opted for an ongoing series in the Periódico de la República (Arizona Republic), long committed to amnesty for illegals and an open southern border.  Gannet,, the parent company of the Republic and USA Today — which also owns  myriad other left-leaning publications — has  given this continuing, collaborative report daily Page One status.

The driving force behind the series is, of course, President Trump and his focus on border security stemming from his campaign promise to build a wall. That issue resonated with American voters who ultimately put him in office. The Hillary Clinton-endorsing leftwing media, (scorecard under link) including the Arizona Republic, was stunned as the numbers came in on election night. This account by Dan Gainor details the shock, which he correctly assesses as the media’s ‘primal scream.’

The series offers a litany of reasons why the wall is a terrible idea. If one doesn’t appeal, there are plenty of others to choose from. Reader alert: Be aware the newspaper uses the terms “migrant,” “undocumented” and “immigrant” when referring to illegal aliens.

Although the report assures that illegal border crossings are down, it oddly claims deaths of “migrants” are on the rise invading  what it refers to as our “imaginary border.”

Fencing, we are told, may inhibit drug trafficking, but won’t stop it. Using that convoluted logic, an open border is the way to go. These are definitely the spirited entrepreneurs we should welcome into the United States.

Tribal members whose land abuts the border in some locations, are opposed to the wall because it may encroach on sacred ground. Since sacred land takes a back seat to tribal casino operations, opening secure gambling establishments in these spots should solve the problem.

Scare tactics include the claim that tomatoes may cost more — a problem easily remedied by growing your own.

An even more novel opposition to the wall centers on biologists’ concerns that jaguars (cats, not cars) may “become extinct in the U.S. without a connection to Mexico.”

A Coyote, the well-paid transporters of illegal aliens flooding the United States. says the price he charges illegals to cross the border fence from Mexicali, Mexico, to the U.S. has gone up as border security has increased, The ridiculous article’s conclusion? He’s “not worried about the border wall, the border wall will make him rich.”

The latest segment is titled, “Who will really pay for President Trump’s wall?” What the República fails to grasp is that the wall is not Trump’s. He was elected by Americans who desire the security provided by an impenetrable barrier.

In the Sunday edition of the newspaper — as though there is no other news affecting Arizona — the entire 12-page Valley and State section of the newspaper is devoted to coverage of “The Wall.”

A recent article was headlined, “Phoenix composting program is suffering from low participation.’ Help it get on its feet.  If you still subscribe, drop your newspapers in a collection bin.  Then call to cancel. Think of the exhilaration of starting your day without having your intelligence insulted.
