IWI announces Tavor 7 AR bullpup rifle in 7.62×51

Similar to its well-liked X95 series, IWI announced this month that it has a new Tavor in its lineup chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO.

Exhibited at the Defense and Security show in Ban Mai, Thailand next week, the fully-ambidextrous Tavor 7 AR looks a lot like your standard IWI bullpup rifle but is stretched to accommodate the 7.62mm chambering.

“We are pleased to expand the TAVOR family – the world’s most popular battle-proven bullpup rifles – with the new addition of a 7.62X51mm caliber weapon, based on requests from our customers,” said Shlomi Sabag, IWI’s CEO.

Moving past the X95’s 5.56mm chambering, the 7 AR is pitched to military and law enforcement end-users but would certainly appeal to the U.S. market for all comers.

Slathered with an M-LOK fore-end and a Picatinny rail for accessories and optics, the rifle comes in two barrel lengths (17 and 20-inches) and four color patterns (Sniper Gray, OD Green, Black, and Flat Dark Earth) for a wide array of options. Overall length is listed at 28.4-inches, though it is not immediately clear which barrel length that is based on.

Surface controls — to include the bolt catch, mag release, and safety lever — are fully ambi while the ejection side and the charging handle can be switched from side to side to accomidate southpaws.

While not currently listed on IWI’s U.S. website, you can bet this bad boy will be on the firing line at SHOT Show in 2018, when the company says it will be available for shipment.
