Gunning for Roy Moore: Why now?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The U.S. Senate race in Alabama has tentacles that reach deeper and encompass more than most casual political observers can fathom. It also exposes the seamy underbelly of internecine party politics — in this case — the go-along-to-get-along establishment Republicans who are all too eager to see conservative Roy Moore kicked to the curb.

Hauling out accusations of alleged inappropriate behavior with young women claimed as fact by questionable sources or those tied to the Democrat hierarchy, that ostensibly took place nearly 40 years ago is indicative of the lengths to which the desperate will go.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), which fundraises for Senate candidates has withdrawn its support of Moore despite four decades in which he has been a candidate in five statewide campaigns, three county elections and has remained outspoken regarding religious liberty and a public monument of the Ten Commandments.

But Mitch McConnell toady Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Col.), chair of the McConnell-controlled NRSC doesn’t care as he bizarrely threatens to nullify the vote of the people of Alabama, saying, “If he refuses to withdraw and wins, the Senate should vote to expel him, because he does not meet the ethical and moral requirements of the United States Senate.”

We missed similar demands regarding U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, (D-NJ).

Even with close scrutinizing in the public media and with the intrigue of opposition research, these issues have never been raised against Roy Moore.

Why now?

The answer is simple. Running within the state of Alabama Roy Moore was insulated and safe from scurrilous accusations meant to take him out of his previous campaigns. This time is different.  He’s a conservative running for the U.S. Senate. The party apparatus — most notably Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell — wants pliable. Roy Moore doesn’t fit that description. The story broke in the Washington Post, a far left publication solely owned by multi-billionaire Jeff Bezos, who didn’t think it important to cover the ongoing rape allegations against Hollywood insider Harvey Weinstein, but is dedicated to perpetrating politically based allegations against Roy Moore.

Mitch McConnell’s leadership position is riding on this U.S. Senate race. His shaky majority could well be upended by uncompromising conservative Roy Moore.

Curiously, none of Moore’s accusers were heard from when he was elected chief justice in 2000 and 2012 or when he ran for governor in 2006 and 2010, making the women’s claims even more suspicious.

The Washington syndicate can’t tolerate a man of conscience who won’t automatically fall in line with the D.C. power structure, which is why McConnell is now demanding that Moore, “ Step aside.”

But things are different on the home front in Alabama. “I got more calls yesterday for Roy Moore signs than I have since the primary,” Calhoun County Republican Party Chairman James Bennett told the Montgomery Advertiser on Friday. “I think they’re (Moore supporters) are very skeptical of the reporting four weeks before the election. They’re going to withhold their judgment, but they’re not going to withhold their vote.”

Speaking to supporters, Moore nailed it, saying,

“The Democrats, and the Republican establishment, know the importance of this election. In fact, most people in America know the importance of this election. They view it as a prelude to the elections coming in 2018. It may very well determine the future of our country. This is a prime example of fake news, an attempt to divert attention from the true issues that face our country like healthcare, military readiness, tax reform, immigration, and the national debt. We do not intend to let the Democrats or the establishment Republicans or anybody else behind this story stop this campaign. There are investigations going on. In the next few days, there will be revelations about the motivations and the content of these lies. They will be brought to the public.”

Prominent evangelical Christians James Dobson, who heads Focus on the Family and Rev. Franklin Graham praised Roy Moore in advance of Alabama’s Senate runoff.

Dec. 12 Moore will face Democrat Doug Jones.
