Vatican, Strange Drug and Child Porn Case
The arrest of a Vatican long-time usher, found last September by the Italian police loaded with cocaine and several USB sticks full of pedo-pornographic films, remains shrouded in mystery.
47-year-old Ostilio Del Balzo has worked for years in the Papal State for the Pontifical Council for Culture headed by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi.
Del Balzo left work as usual on 1 September, and was arrested by police just as he exited the Vatican territory and drove onto
Italian territory. He was in possession of thirty sealed envelopes totaling 15 grams of cocaine along with five USB sticks containing child pornography, each with the same content.
Del Balzo is not considered a consumer of cocaine, nor a user of pedo-pornographic material. The police have searched his personal electronic equipment, finding nothing on the pc or mobile phone.
According to La Reppublica, the suspicion of the investigators is the cargo was intended for someone inside the Vatican who was interested in making a purchase.
With all these doubts to clarify, the judge for the preliminary investigations efforts has denied the freedom of the Vatican usher, granting him house arrest with an electronic bracelet.
It is hoped that the heavy charges against him will convince Del Balzo to disclose who he was to deliver to that day.
Del Balzo risks five years detention in prison for the purpose of drug dealing and possession of child abuse material, exacerbated by the large amount found in his possesion.
