HK MR7621 rifles to be manufactured in new Georgia facility

Heckler & Koch announced via social media that its new Georgia facility will soon be churning out MR762A1 rifles.

The gun maker posted a picture of the 7.62 chambered rifle along with a caption detailing the company’s plans to produce the rifles stateside.

HK debuted a new 50,000-square foot manufacturing plant located in Columbus, Georgia in September 2017. The multi-million dollar project poured resources into the southern state, with HK stating that it plans to hire 84 employees within two years.

Guns.com reported from SHOT Show that HK’s manufacturing move to Georgia is expected to ultimately lower prices on HK goods.

“It just takes so long to get product from Germany to here. As well it takes — if we want something for the U.S. market, having a facility will allow us to do it quicker, faster,” HK spokesperson Angela Harrell  told Guns.com in January.

The MR762A1 is the first long gun HK has officially announced will be made in the new facility. Chambered in 7.62x51mm, the rifle offers a length of 39.10-inches with the stock extended and 35.94-inch with the stock retracted. Boasting a 16.50-inch barrel, the MR762A1 weighs in at 9.84-pounds. A direct descendent of the HK416/17, the MR762A1 utilizes many of the same attributes as its predecessor including an adjustable buttstock, ergonomic pistol grip, mechanical sights and either the HK Modular Rail System or the HK free-floating four-quadrant rail system/handguard. Current MSRP on the rifle is $3,995.
