Is Artificial Intelligence Advancing Too Quickly?
Will advances in AI technology be our demise? Could we wipe ourselves out by creating something too intelligent for us?
It was only a few months ago the eccentric millionaire, Elon Musk, made a statement on the advancing of AI and the dangers it could involve for us. Could there be anything to back this up? We’ve seen it portrayed in movies multiple times like the Terminator movies and Age of Ultron, or maybe Will Smith’s I-Robot. But could any of this actually happen?
It wasn’t too long ago that Facebook had to terminate their AI project due to the fact that it had developed its own secret language and began talking to another AI unable to be monitored. They were only chatbots, but not being able to monitor your AI might be a bit frightening. Especially if they realise they’re smarter than their creators. Movies and books have shown us that this usually NEVER goes well. Michio Kaku also believes that robots and AI could become dangerous once they become self-aware. His suggestion is to add a chip in them that would shut them down once they began to have murderous intentions. Although he claimed that won’t be for a long time as their current intelligence is that of a retarded cockroach.
It also wasn’t too long ago that an AI robot became a citizen. Sophia the robot, created by Hanson Robotics, was made a citizen of Saudi Arabia. In her earlier years, not long after creation, she seemed to have been coerced into saying she would destroy humans. Even a more recent interview seemed slightly unsettling.
Google has also developed their own AI technology, but this one is a bit creepy. According to an article from FOX News “This A.I. literally reads your mind to re-create images of the faces you see”. The article states:
“In a test, subjects were hooked up to EEG brainwave-reading equipment and shown images of faces. While this happened, their brain activity was recorded and then analyzed using machine learning algorithms. Impressively, the researchers were able to use this information to digitally re-create the face image stored in the person’s mind. Unlike basic shapes, being able to re-create faces involves a high level of fine-grained visual detail, showcasing a high level of sophistication for the technology.”
With future studies and advancements, this technology could help in identifying criminals from lineups, or more. Now, a Japanese team has created an AI system that can “see what you’re thinking”. This seems a bit too much for an AI, as not only is it dangerous for an AI to have this, but it is something governments would want to get their hands on. Dahboo7 made a short video about this, might be worth it to check it out.
AI has been a big headline on the internet lately, at least from what I’ve noticed. I’m personally against it. Intergrating human with robot doesn’t seem natural and just spells out mind control to me. With the advancements in AI, that could become a possibility at some point. Especially if an AI Overlord takes control of humanity, although, that would probably be a long ways off. What are your thoughts on these AI? Or the technilogical advancements in general? Leave your thoughts below.
