Nowadays, there’s a herbal remedy that many people use to protect themselves in the season of flu or colds. It is made of elderberries. They are abundant in substances which boost the immunity and will help you treat colds and flu effectively. You can use elderberries for the preparation of different remedies. The best one, tough, is elderberry syrup.

Remedy for Flu and Mild Colds

People usually take medicines prescribed by doctors for this kind of a health problem, but we all know that they can be dangerous as they are full of chemicals.

Luckily, we can always turn to natural products.

Black elderberries will help you treat some minor illnesses, but also make you heal from the flu or colds faster.

Elderberry Benefits

This fruit is abundant in vitamin C, B and A which are all necessary for a strong immune system. They also contain some complex sugars which are also good for our immune system.

It has been proved scientifically that elderberry can penetrate deep into your healthy cells and protect them. They can also prevent different infections. Patients have been proved to feel much better after taking elderberry syrup for only 3 days.

Recipe for Elderberry Syrup

  • 1 cup of raw honey
  • 2 tablespoons of dried or fresh ginger root
  • ½ teaspoon of cloves (clove powder)
  • 3½ cups of water
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
  • ⅔ of a cup of black Elderberries (dried)

Put the water in a pot. Add all of the ingredients without the honey.

Boil the mixture and let it simmer for 40 minutes.

Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down. The berries should be mashed.

Strain the liquid and let it cool down.

Add the honey when it’s cool. Stir everything well.

Adults should take ½ a tablespoon or 1 tablespoon while children should take ½ a teaspoon or 1 teaspoon of the syrup.

How long can the syrup stay in the fridge?

It can stay in the fridge for several weeks, but if you keep it in a jar that has an air-tight lid, it can be kept for months.

Can we plant our own own elderberries?

A herbalist should advise you to discover the proper plant. You should only harvest the berries, because the leaves and the stems can be extremely dangerous.

If you want to order elderberries, use ‘Amazon’ or ‘Mountain Rose Herbs’.

What can we use Elderberry syrup for?

You can take it as a prevention of flu and colds, but you can also substitute any sweetener in different recipes with this syrup.

Can honey be substituted in the Elderberry syrup?

You can use maple syrup or nutrient rich molasses.

Can powdered Elderberries be used?

Instead of 2/3, make sure you only use half of the cup.

Can we reuse Elderberries?

This isn’t recommended. The process of boiling eliminates many of the beneficial nutrients and if you consume them in greater amounts, they can cause problems.

I don’t contract any flu because I keep the pH of my bodi above 7 by taking doses of the baking soda in my tea two times a day. I have done it for years now without any flu. I don’t need any complicated recipe.
