Californians are coming to Texas with their companies & corporations because there are no confiscatory state income taxes. There is a property tax & sales tax, but it is less than most of CA. You can buy two or three houses in any Dallas suburb for what one small house costs in Anaheim or San Jose. Teachers can’t even afford to rent decent apartments in San Francisco or Santa Monica, much less buy a decent house on a teacher’s salary.
Conservatives & Christians are sick of the liberal looney bin CA legislature that runs that state coming up with ridiculous laws that are one stop short of full-blown socialism. The latest thing on the agenda is a law banning parents from providing bible based moral direction to their teenagers lest that interfere somehow with their blossoming sexuality. This amounts to banning the bible and bible study in Christian homes. Who owns those homes? Does the state think it can dictate to Christian parents how they raise their children? Who do those children belong to? Families or the State?
The liberals that run the state are very aggressive about free speech and freedom of religion, but only when the liberals are doing the speaking, and only when their version of the current religious philosophy of atheistic secular humanism is being taught. Nope, these people don’t play fair. When conservative speakers come to Berkley or other universities in the CA system, they are routinely shouted down and verbally abused. Some have suffered physical violence. And Berkley was the leader of the so-called “Free Speech” movement in the 60′s. Universities used to be “cafeteria lines” of different philosophies and schools of thought, going on the principle of a broad exposure to cultural and religious diversity was the best possible education. That is still true for liberal & humanistic lines of thought, but any form of conservativism or Bible based Christianity is outlawed. Professors open ridicule freshmen students in class once they find out they are Christians. Obnoxious & abusive levels of peer pressure will be applied to conservative Christians in the dorms and in small group functions. The goal is to convince the Christians to give up their faith & become atheists. Sad to say, this happens too often.
New York state is almost as bad. The governor of the state went on record a few years ago that conservative, evangelical, and pentecostal Christians were not welcome in that state, and to stay out or leave. Can you blame them that they do leave?
