AZ U.S. Senate: Who would you select to fill seat?

Frosty Taylor’s MCRC Briefs, the widely read Maricopa County Republican newsletter, included a piece about the potential list of candidates for the soon-to-be-vacant Arizona Senate seat. John McCain, seriously ill with brain cancer, hasn’t been able to return to Washington, D.C. for months. He is reportedly planning his own funeral complete with guest list exclusions, including the President of the United States, whom he abhors.

A recent edition of Briefs includes a list of possible contenders, some positively chilling. We’re asking our readers if they have any more acceptable names to add to the list. Gov. Ducey will ultimately name the replacement.

Word Leaked Out of Gov Doug Ducey’s office a few days ago that Ducey’s right hand man Kirk Adams has reportedly taken a high paying position in San Francisco.  Knowledgeable sources note that takes Adams out of the running as a potential appointee to replace Sen John McCain, who is suffering from a brain tumor.   So, who will get the appointment if McCain resigns by the end of the month?  McCain’s wife Cindy’s name is high on the potential appointee list. But Cindy carries years-old baggage related to a  prescription drug scandal. Is former Gov Jan Brewer a consideration?  Voters haven’t forgotten the late night ObamaCare vote taken under her watch. Some think McCain’s protégé Grant Woods is in the running, but others say the GOP Establishment doesn’t want to deal with the uproar that would create. McCain’s daughter Meghan has been mentioned, but she lacks experience – besides that she is well on her way to a successful career. And former Congressman John Shadegg’s name has surfaced as a potential fill in, but others report Shadegg couldn’t get elected as a State Committeeman in his own district. Some think that Ducey will appoint himself to fill the senator’s shoes – but whoa, wait a minute – that would move incumbent Secretary of State Michelle Reagan into the Gov’s office. Old timers say Reagan is a nice gal, but definitely not ready for the gov’s chair.  Then we have senate candidates Joe Arpaio, Kelli Ward, and Martha McSally.  This issue will be the topic of a lot of political chatter at upcoming Memorial Day weekend BBQ’s! – ft
