Russia Defending Israel?

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Monday that only the Syrian regime should field military forces in the country’s southern border areas. These comments referred to areas such as the Syrian Golan Heights region abutting the Israeli Golan Heights and the border with Jordan. This has indicated that Russia is open to Israeli demands and that Iranian forces should be kept far away from Israel’s border. A strange turn of events, but with Putin showing time and time again that he’ll do whatever it takes to maintain peace, it isn’t much of a surprise. Lavrov had the following statements.

“Of course, the withdrawal of all non-Syrian forces must be carried out on a mutual basis, this should be a two-way street,”
“The result of this work which should continue and is continuing should be a situation when representatives of the Syrian Arab Republic’s army stand at Syria’s border with Israel,”

The Haaretz report said Russia decided to work on a deal to remove the Iranian troops following a heavy Israeli attack on Iranian targets in Syria on May 10. Israel had admitted to these and several more attacks since then as if they’re trying to edge on Iran. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Bahram Qasemi said that no one can force Iran to do anything after remarks from Putin last week after he suggested that all foreign troops should leave after this war ends. Could Russia fall to the aid of Israel in the end or is he in control of a master chess game?
