Something Shocking About the NFL & the Super Bowl You Really Need to See (2019)

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

In the late first century, Juvenall said, give the people bread and circuses and they they shall never revolt. The only problem is that the bread and circuses aren’t actually given to the people, they’re paying for it out of their own pockets and then pay for it again when the circus comes to town.

The NFL circus is no different. Billed as THE biggest show on earth as tens of millions of people watch big guys in tight pants run around a grass field, banging into each other and chasing a ball around, and as large corporations display their polished, funny and expensive propaganda campaign ads, designed by social engineers to steer the minds of the unthinking masses, the public is being fleeced by central city planners to fund the three ring circus.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium is home to the Atlanta Falcons and the site of this year’s Super Bowl. Costing $1.5 billion, it’s one of the most expensive stadiums in America.

The owner of Atlanta’s football team, billionaire Arthur Blank, persuaded Atlanta officials to force taxpayers to pay for more than $700 million in subsidies for his stadium.

And you probably understands why politicians subsidize stadiums. “They like going to games, they like telling voters, ‘I brought a team to our town and, as always, they really enjoy putting their grubby hands into everybody else’s pockets!’”

We also know why billionaires take money from the people, “if politicians are giving somebody else’s money away, Blank’s partners would consider him irresponsible not to take it. Besides…who doesn’t like a free lunch every now and then…a really really big free lunch. And typically, Billionaires don’t become billionaires without a LOT of government assistance.”

To add insult to injury…You’ve heard of the “bridge to nowhere.” Now meet Atlanta’s bridge for no one.

In anticipation of hosting this year’s Super Bowl at the brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the city of Atlanta spent more than $23 million to build a pedestrian bridge linking the stadium to the nearby Vine City public transit station, allowing fans to cross a busy street without needing a crosswalk. The bridge was originally supposed to cost about $13 million—already pretty pricey for a simple pedestrian crossing over a four-lane road—but city officials approved an extra $10 million in funding last year to ensure the project would be finished in time for the big game, which kicks off Sunday evening.

The serpentine bridge—decked out with dazzling, customizable LED lights and wrapped with diamond-shaped aluminum panels—did indeed get finished in time for the Super Bowl.

But it won’t be used by the vast majority of the expected 80,000 people heading to the game on Sunday. Because of it’s location adjacent to the stadium, the bridge has been deemed a security risk and will be closed to everyone except credentialed staff and media, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported this week. This is a great example of gross government waste if there ever was one.

And when it comes to already-rich people getting much poorer people to fund their stadiums and their useless and expensive bridges, Atlanta is not unusual. The Oakland Raiders, for just one other example, got $750 million of taxpayer money to move the Raiders to Las Vegas.

“In the last two decades…taxpayers across the country have spent nearly $7 billion on [NFL] stadiums,” according to a Huffington Post article.

In fact “12 teams … actually turned a profit on stadium subsidies alone,” according to a Fox News report.

Politicians claim their subsidies are “an investment.” They argue the economic benefits a stadium will bring a city outweigh the cost. Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman said, “It really is a benefit to us that really could spill over into something.”

But this “spillover is bunk.” Numerous economic studies have shown that stadiums are a bad investment for taxpayers.

One by George Mason University concludes, “Despite the many millions of dollars spent on professional sports, little or none of that money makes its way back to the taxpayers who subsidize professional sports teams.” In fact “… sports teams may actually hurt economic growth.”

Economist J.C. Bradbury points out that while money spent at football games is the “seen benefit, the unseen cost is that those people would otherwise be spending their money elsewhere in the local communities. At the local bar there’s one less bartender. In restaurants there’s one less waiter or waitress. In shops all over the city there’s one less store clerk and one less purchase…A movie theater that had one less theater full.”

“When politicians brag about their stadium and the many economic benefits, let’s also remember all the jobs they destroyed and taxpayer money they stole and squandered.”

Orwell rightly said, “So long as they (the Proles – or members of the working class) continued to work and breed, their other activities were without importance. Left to themselves, like cattle turned loose upon the plains of Argentina, they had reverted to a style of life that appeared to be natural to them, a sort of ancestral pattern…Heavy physical work, the care of home and children, petty quarrels with neighbors, films, football, beer and above all, gambling filled up the horizon of their minds. To keep them in control was not difficult.”

Imagine what could be accomplished in this country and around the world if all this money, all these resources all this focus and Fanatical fervor for sporting events was directed at simply organizing against Zionist international banking cartel, the criminals in the cesspool known as Washington D.C. And against the very injustices that make us the land of the FEE and Home of the Slave. But because we have bread and circuses like the Super Bowl to capture our attention distract, deceive and divides us…it’s almost certain that we shall never revolt.

I applied to be on the Las Vegas Raiders seat list with $100 down. When I found out the seat license would be thousands of dollars, not the $100 they first mentioned, I canceled and got a refund. Why would I want to subsidize some billionaire? Not going to happen. Unfortunately many gullible people fell for it, they love watching the super wealthy gut the middle class.
