Iran War Game Over?

For weeks now we have been reporting on the situation in Iran which all stemmed from intense sanctions and the withdrawal from the 2015 Nuclear Deal with Iran and the US. With the Iranian Foreign Minister, President, and Supreme Leader, making some serious statements regarding the US and allegedly sabotaging oil exports from Saudi Arabia. Between the shitstorm on Twitter between Trump and the leaders, the war that Bolton and several others seemed to be heavily pushing for, and the threats of ending each other, could this go the same direction that the whole North Korea standoff did? Just dead in the water? In his trip to Japan both Shinzo Abe, and Donald Trump agreed that things need to change. With Japan’s close links to Tehran, Trump has agreed to let Japan be the mediator between the two countries.

Reports say that Shinzo Abe will visit Iran next month to speak with the Iranian President. Abe also said he would like to set up a summit with no preconditions, between North Korea and the US after John Bolton was labelled as a warmonger. Reuters reported the following from Trump on the Iran situation.

“I really believe that Iran would like to make a deal, and I think that’s very smart of them, and I think that’s a possibility to happen,” Trump said during a news conference with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo.

“It has a chance to be a great country with the same leadership,” Trump said. “We aren’t looking for regime change — I just want to make that clear. We are looking for no nuclear weapons.”

He was also reported saying:

“The prime minister has already spoken to me about that and I do believe that Iran would like to talk. And if they would like to talk, we would like to talk also. We’ll see what happens … nobody wants to see terrible things happen, especially me.”

Regarding North Korea, Trump has said he isn’t bothered by their short-range missile tests as it is no threat to the US and doesn’t violate any of their deals. CBS reported:

Mr. Trump’s national security adviser John Bolton believes the acts violated U.N. resolutions, as does Abe. North Korea, in response, called Bolton a “warmonger.”

But Mr Trump appeared unfazed by the tests, and suggested perhaps Kim just wanted attention.

“It doesn’t matter. All I know is that there have been no nuclear tests, there have been no ballistic missiles going out, no long-range missiles going out. And I think that someday we’ll have a deal. I’m not in a rush,” Mr Trump said.

With another terrifying situation possibly coming to a close once again, where will the dice fall to now? Will China step up their game in retaliation of the trade war? Maybe some Russian movements?
