So who am I and why on earth should you listen to me?

My name’s Tom Anderson. I’m a former special forces soldier and an international trainer. For the last 17 years, I’ve worked beside “tip of the spear” soldiers across North America and Europe teaching them everything from hostile enemy territory survival to guerilla warfare tactics.

I’ve travelled to some of the most violent places in the world… worked in places like Port-au-Prince, Iraq, Afghanistan and worse. I’ve also served in countless peacekeeping missions worldwide. And best of all, I’ve had the blessing of rubbing shoulders and training the toughest men on the planet…from Green Berets to Navy Seals.

Yet after more than a decade of helping train spec ops soldiers to take on the toughest nightmare scenarios…I never thought I’d go public with my knowledge …until I watched my best friend Charlie being dragged from an inferno, clutching a Bug Out Bag while his terrified wife sobbed in desperation.

Charlie is one of my best friends. We knew each other since kindergarten. We lived on the same block, went to the same schools and even played on the same football team.

But Charlie didn’t have it easy. His parents died when he was 10 and he spent his teens taking care of his grandmother.

But despite it all, Charlie went on to become an upstanding guy. He became a military medic, married a nurse, had 3 kids and lived as normal a life as possible.

And like a lot of military men, Charlie was a hard core prepper.

Even on his basic salary, he built his own root cellar, an aquaponics garden, a handmade B.O. log cabin and even had a year’s stockpile of MREs and food. Plus he owned an amazing arsenal of AR-15s, Colt .45′s and Bolt-Action .308′s… the works!

We met again after many years, in the hell hole that Port-au-Prince’s Cite Soleil had become after the 2010 earthquake….

And that’s when our lives changed forever.

Cite Soleil is often called “the most dangerous place on earth”

It’s a city with 400,000 people living in extreme poverty without clean water, sewers, electricity or work. Crime, rape and AIDS plagued every corner of the “City of the Sun”.

Gangs literally ruled the streets because there’s no law enforcement. Hundreds of kidnap victims regularly disappear there never to be seen again.

So you can imagine how a 7.0 earthquake turned a bad situation into ”hell on earth” overnight.

Nearly 3000 inmates escaped the ruins of local prison flooding the entire city with waves of crime the city had never seen before.

I was there with my division to help control the chaos while Charlie and his wife joined later as auxiliary military personnel.

Then one night a group of about 20 escaped inmates attacked the abandoned hospital where they were stationed. They tossed 40 or so Molotov cocktails at the first floor of our building. I guess they figured it was an easy target because it wasn’t heavily protected.

In less than 2 minutes, the already damaged hospital was engulfed in flames…and my team and I were rushed to evacuate it.

In a panic, Charlie and his wife grabbed random things…

Did they need food? What about a gun? Was it safe to leave the building, even though flames were everywhere?

All of the sudden, Charlie’s heart started to race…his mind got foggy…and he couldn’t see straight. Charlie lied down on the ground…and froze. His wife desperately tried to get him up to leave…but he wouldn’t move.. And then she started panicking.

Despite several soldiers yelling at him to get up, Charlie just laid on the ground clutching his bug-out bag like his life depended on it.

It finally took 2 soldiers to drag him outside to escape the fire…His wife just stood there in disbelief, completely terrified and humiliated. The man who was supposed to protect her was being dragged to safety, unable to walk on his own 2 feet.

Now here was a grown man, with military and medical training, suffering from shock because his mind had never prepared for this exact situation.

And Charlie’s story isn’t an isolated incident.

Just look at these pictures.

These are just a few “hilarious” items people grabbed while they evacuating the recent Fort McMurray forest fire up in Canada.

They also prove how your mind goes blank when you’re panicking, exactly when you need it the most.

These were school teachers, firefighters, doctors…and mostly oil rig workers…some of the strongest, toughest men on the planet. Some of these people were even preppers!

I know it’s hard to believe. In fact, I used to think it too. But survival isn’t about “stuff” you buy…

The greatest killer in most survival situations isn’t a lack of equipment or skills or physical strength…

It’s panic, loneliness and recklessness…In other words …how you manage your mind under pressure.

I can’t even count how many times I heard of people who’ve killed themselves…

- From losing all hope
- Or making stupid decisions
- Or people who actually died from shock or panic with lifesaving equipment literally sitting in the palm of their hands…

In fact, 2 of the most famous military survival stories prove this.

David Sillito, an SAS soldier, who survived 180 Miles through the Sahara Desert nearly tried killed himself half way because, for a moment, he thought he couldn’t make it.

Or Chris Ryan, from the famous movie Bravo Two Zero, decided to trust local goat herders for help.

The 1st time got his entire team killed

And 2nd time got himself captured and tortured.

Fear makes cowards (and idiots) of us all.

But then there are miracle survivors who defied all odds….

Without equipment or training or help.

Like…

Juana Maria who survived alone on an island for 18 years surrounded by hunters trying to kill her. When rescuers found her, she was covered in skins and feathers of wild ducks sewed together with sinews of seals.

- Or Major Robert Cain who, in WWII, was blinded by a bomb…but managed to destroy 6 tanks with shrapnel in his face and ruptured eardrums….

- Or 3 Mexican Fishermen who in 2005, survived for 9 months in a rickety boat 5000 miles out in the Pacific Ocean…. without food, water or gas. They made a sail using blankets and string from their engine and nearly sank every night because it rained so much.

So what’s the difference between those who survive and those who panic and die?

It wasn’t that they had the right gear or luck.

After decades of research, I realized survival comes down to 3 things:

 

Specialized knowledge
Creative thinking
And the ability to push past stress, fear or pain.

That’s why most great leaders aren’t young muscular guys but 60-70 year olds who have a superior mind and knowledge. That’s who people look up to when things go sideways.

Why do you think Navy Seals go through hell week? It isn’t about testing how strong someone is. It’s all about pushing men to their limits and seeing who cracks.

That’s why countless Olympic athletes fail but some 140lbs farmer boy who’s never seen the ocean, passes with flying colors.

And why does the military stress this over everything else?

Because the fact is 8 times out of 10, missions rarely go as planned. …and it’s the men who can hold it together and adapt that succeed.

You have no margin for error when you’re sent to disarm a nuke. If things go wrong, you have to find a way to complete your mission no matter what…or millions die.

Most elite soldiers and real world survivors know this. It’s not the gear or the weapon but the man using it.

For instance…

- French soldier Honore Giraud plotted for 2 years to escape the “Alcatraz” of Nazi Prisons by learning German and secretly memorizing the area.

Patience and resourcefulness helped him escape inescapable prisons 2 times!

- Or a famous British Indian Soldier who, during WWII, blew his arm off trying to throw back an enemy grenade…then fought off 200 Japanese soldiers and killed 31 more BY HIMSELF…WITH ONE ARM !

He survived because he worked past the shock, horror and pain.

- And, of course, there’s Aron Ralston, the famous rock climber who amputated his arm with a dull knife after being trapped for 5 days under a 800-pound boulder.

He finally got the courage to cut off his arm when he stopped focusing on the hopelessness of the situation and instead focused on his future.

The fact is the right knowledge, resourcefulness and focus trumps everything in a crisis or survival situation.

I’ve witnessed countless poor, malnourished, unarmed men, women and children survive unbelievable chaos using nothing but their will to live and creative thinking.

And when you CAN think past the pain, fear, hurt, and doubt…you can tackle ANY threat with inner calm, focus and power better than any solider.

You’ll have confidence in the face of any disaster.

You’ll project power that calms and helps you lead your loved ones to safety even when everyone thinks hope is lost.

And you’ll be able to tap into inner strength no matter what crisis or impossible odds you face. Whether it’s looters trying to break into your home or finding your way to your BOL….

With the right mindset you’ll conquer whatever threat you face every time.

BUT without these 3 qualities…right knowledge…adaptability…and pushing past fear ….I could gift wrap you EVERY SINGLE survival tool on the planet and you’d still die because hopelessness would eventually take over.

And once that happens, you’re dog food.

And here’s something prepping and survival experts WON’T Tell you:

Too Much prepping gear will get you killed if it becomes your crutch.

Now don’t get me wrong. I believe in having the best equipment.

But your supplies and equipment can only do so much.

Even soldiers start dropping like flies when they start believing “it’s all about my gear”.

And what happens when their equipment fails? Their false sense of security crashes and fear, hopelessness and panic takes over.

There’s a saying you learn in the special forces…

“The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in combat”

You’re practicing how to survive under perfect conditions with everything working exactly as you planned. But what do you do when things don’t go as planned? When equipment get lost, broken or stolen? Or things take a twisted turn for the worst? What then?

Unless you train your mind to handle the stress, you’re dead in the water..

You’ll choke like 90% of people and start losing hope. And once people lose hope, they start doing stupid things…like

- Commit suicide
- Or turn on each other
- Or lie, cheat and steal or worse to survive.

The key of REAL WORLD SURIVIVAL isn’t about surviving the “chaos out there”…it’s all about beating the chaos inside your mind.

That’s how you’ll save your family from TEOTWAWKI (The end of the world as we know it).

Not more equipment…but a survivor’s mindset.

And that’s what my friend Charlie was missing. It wasn’t “more gear” or “prepping equipment”, but an “unstoppable mindset”.

It’s why he cracked under the pressure of the attack…and froze during the fire evacuation. . .

And if it hadn’t been for members of my team, Charlie would have burned alive in the fire…leaving his wife and 3 kids without a father. Without someone to love, comfort and protect them when they needed him most.

After Charlie came home, he was never the same.

He went on sick leave and didn’t get back to work.

His wife and him stopped speaking and he avoided his kids every chance he could get.

Charlie started obsessing about prepping to the point he ripped through his entire life savings in just 3 months.

I confronted Charlie and the truth finally came out.

Charlie was in constant fear. He felt guilty for letting down his wife. He was terrified that he’d let his kids down if something happened. He lost all confidence he could protect his family after the incident at Port-au-Prince. Charlie couldn’t face his wife and kids anymore. He was broken inside and he knew it.

He didn’t know what to do…he couldn’t stop the fear…he couldn’t stop the constant self-doubt. It was ruining his life and he felt helpless to do anything about it.

AND once fear takes control, it tears through every part of someone’s life.

Charlie didn’t die that day…but in his heart and mind he did.

And now he was an empty shell.

It was right then I realized I couldn’t take it anymore.

I couldn’t just sit there and do nothing. And I hate to admit this but I felt embarrassed for Charlie that day.

Here was a friend…a good man…who served his country and now was about to lose everything because he wasn’t given the right tools to deal with the pressures of a crisis. And I had them right there in my back pocket the whole time.

I could have helped prevent this if I hadn’t been so arrogant and assumed only “elite soldiers” need this information.

There were countless patriotic, hard working men and women, just like Charlie, dedicated to protecting their loved ones from potential threats. Men and women who need the strategies and tools I’d developed over the last several years now more than ever.

Right then and then I decided I had to change.

So over the course of 3 days I showed Charlie all of the “missing pieces” he didn’t have.

And that’s not all. It’s like a switch had been flipped and in a matter of days he went from a broken soul to a stone cold warrior.

I even watched him calmly stare down a steroid juiced 260-pound bouncer at a local bar. Charlie didn’t even have to open his mouth. The guy just walked off…

And the best part?

Fear stopped running Charlie’s life.

Charlie knew he could handle anything life threw at him.

Even if he lost all of his money, job, house or car…

Even if he lost EVERYTHING…

Or EVEN if a crisis happened tomorrow…

He knew he could look it square in the eye and take it on without flinching. He would find a way. He now had the mental skills to save himself, his family and loved ones when the chips were down.

Charlie would finally be the soldier, warrior and hero that deep down he always wanted to be…and he knew it.

I was so touched by Charlie’s transformation, he convinced me to start training other preppers. Charlie hired me to teach his friends and family…And then their friends and family…And before I knew it, people started badgering me to make this training available to the public.
