Odd Animals from Star Wars

May 4th is Star Wars Day (may the fourth be with you!) so in celebration, here are some of my personal favorite odd creatures from the Star Wars Universe.  And let’s face it, they’re all pretty odd!

And before you say it, yes, I’m a total geek.  This should come as no surprise given my previous posts here.

Nexu
These toothy-jawed, multiple-eyed creatures are native to the planet Idona.  One almost made a meal of Obi Wan, Padme and Anakin Skywalker in a Geonosian gladiator pit.

Tauntaun
Despite being furry, these bipedal creatures are actually reptiles native to the icy planet of Hoth.  They evolved fur to keep warm but even so, cannot survive the crushing cold of a Hoth night exposed to the elements.  And they stink real bad.

Colo Claw Fish
These giant, phosporescent aquatic creatures are eel-like and inhabit the bodies of water of the lush planet of Naboo.  Jar Jar Binks (unfortunately?) escaped becoming a meal thank to the underwater piloting skills of Obi Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn.

Wampa
These predatory, white-furred, horned creatures roam the lonely tundras of Hoth.  Luke Skywalker famously almost ended up in one’s belly.

Bantha
These hairy behmoths look like a cross between an elephant and a big horn sheep.  They are used as beasts of burden on the planet of Tatooine.

Eopie
These long-legged, short-trunked creatures are ridden as pack animals on Tattoine.

Dewback
Dewacks are large reptilian creatures ridden and used as pack animals on Tattoine.  They got a bit of a digital makeover from in the revamp of the original Star Wars film in the late 1990s.

Mynock
These space-faring, winged organisms feed on electical energy and almost spelled the doom of the Millenium Falcon.

Sarlaac
The sarlaac is a creature native to the deserts of Tatooine that was the Boba Fett’s ultimate doom.  We never get to see much of it other than it’s grasping tentacles and wormlike mouth.

Nerf
These creatures never appeared in the films but were the source of the geekiest of geeky insults: a nerfherder.

 And since this is going out late in the day here on the East Coast, don’t forget to celebrate Revenge of the 5th day tomorrow!
