Pup Rescued from Trash Bag Learns to Walk

What a difference a day makes

A severly deformed, yet darling 11-week old pitbull pup abandoned to die in a trash bag has been rescued by angel shelter workers and now has a new leash on life! 

“There was a man outside the Save-A-Lot selling pit-bull puppies for $50 a pop,” foster mom and shelter worker Erica Daniel, told NBC’s TODAY. “A woman approached him and noticed a noise coming from a garbage bag he was holding. She asked him, ‘What’s in the bag?’ and he said, ‘Don’t worry about it.’ ”

The woman pressed the issue and the man opened — and gave her — the contents of the bag. Inside was little Harper – a puppy so deformed that she couldn’t walk or hold up her head. Shelter workers and veterinarians who subsequently evaluated Harper had seen this problem before and came to the same conclusion: she really should be euthanized.

That’s when Daniel stepped in and decided to take the puppy home for one full and final day of love and affection. “I had to show her what it was like to be loved,” Daniel told NBC. “I’d planned on taking her home that night, letting her sleep in bed with us, and having her humanely euthanized in the morning.”

A Happy Turn of Events

But that was not to be! The following day, Harper managed to stand on her own four paws, and Daniel was inspired to keep the pup and take care of her in hopes that she would someday be able to walk and thrive. Today, Harper is a frisky, happy pup who is gaining more and more mobility each day, to the astonishment of onlookers and medical professionals.
