Harry Belafonte, Dictator Obama
Harry Belafonte of “Day-O” fame has a novel suggestion for Barack Obama: He wants the President to imprison those who oppose his agenda “like a Third World dictator.” You see, that’s the problem with progressives. Scratch one lightly and you’ll always find a totalitarian enamored of fascist methods just beneath the surface.
Belafonte, who is no stranger to controversy, is also a big fan of Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, Robert Mugabe and the notorious Rosenbergs, who were executed by the US government back in 1953 for essentially helping the Soviet Union develop nuclear weapons. And while there was much uncertainty about the Rosenbergs’ guilt, KGB documents released after the collapse of the Soviet Union, revealed they did indeed pass on nuclear secrets to Stalin.
One of the problems with having celebrities make political pronouncements is that there is no guarantee that their pronouncements are anything more than badly reasoned, knee jerk utterances completely at odds with the accepted standards of our culture. Belafonte is a case in point. To see the world through his window, America is still living under some Jim Crow system that badly needs excision, even if there is abundant evidence to the contrary. Belafonte has been on a lifelong quest to turn America into some kind of Gulag and now that a black Progressive President is in power, he’s rooting for him to make the move.
