Protesters voice concerns over Coffee County animal shelter kill rate!

Aside from euthanizing healthy dogs, Manchester Animal Control will also not allow adopters to interact with them. Most people will not adopt a dog they aren’t able to spend at least a few minutes with. They will not allow volunteers to come in to spend time with the dogs. They are also not allowed to photograph dogs in order to put pleas out to rescue groups. They are forced to photograph them from a distance through the fence. The runs there were hosed down in freezing conditions with dogs still in them, causing some to literally freeze to the cement kennel floor. They have refused blankets offered by donors to puppies and other dogs that might like something to lay on besides a hard, cold cement floor. This is aside from them shooting a dog (Toby) that was not in poor health. He was actually picked up laying on the sidewalk in front of his neighbors home on a rainy day, something he had done many times before. The sickness was mentioned later as justification for killing him only after the public had found out what happened. As they mentioned in the news clip, shooting an animal with a gun is illegal so this story was concocted as a way to cover themselves.
