Wow nice footage. The animal didn’t exactly seem very threatening but it still might be the best idea to not move until it does.
The guy yelling ‘HEY!’ doesn’t seem like the best idea to me. I think I would have been able to instinctually come up with a noise that sounds a little more threatening than yelling ‘HEY!’ in a high pitch but then again making threatening noises might not have been the best idea either.
You understand that if the thing were to begin to try to eat you (and you didn’t have a weapon) your best chance of survival might be to gouge both of its eyes out with your hands. There’s no way you’d be able to make it stop unless you get it in the face but to be able to get to the eyes you’d have to over power it first.
Good thing it wasn’t hungry – from the way it was licking its mouth and looking away indicates total indifference.
All the camping and hiking/fishing I’ve done in my lifetime, I’m 63 and have not once seen a cougar in the wild. No place to go when you’re in the wild! Maybe he’d just eaten as I noticed he was licking his chops? He wasn’t afraid of the guy that’s for sure. I saw one on our farm once. A big one walking with a limp. Looking for easy prey along the creek. And on my brother’s place a female of 110 pounds came into a field near the house and grabbed a small sheep. My sis in law called the game warden and when he looked around he found the sheep in some bushes partly eaten. We were all living out in the country but though it’s somewhat rural my brther lives on a little road in what they call Tarboo Valley and there are several houses in I’ll say a 2 mile distance of road. But never seen one while out camping or hiking. Great video!
