Reiki for Horse Picasso

Rose De Dan, Wild Reiki and Shamanic Healing LLC, is a mesa carrier in the Peruvian Andean Medicine Tradition, Reiki Master Teacher, animal communicator, author and artist. In practice and in partnership with her companion animals, Rose offers private sessions and ceremonies for humans and animals, and teaches classes and workshops in Reiki and shamanism in Seattle, Washington.

Back when I was just a wee Reiki lass I had a lovely encounter with a horse named Picasso. I discovered why he was named after the famous artist when I met him—one side of Picasso’s face was brown with a brown eye and the other side was white with a blue eye. He was quite striking looking. As I was to discover he was also quite the personality.

His person told us that Picasso was suffering from a painful hoof problem and could use some Reiki energy healing.

Picasso was secured in the cross ties in the middle of the barn and I got on his left side and another Reiki practitioner took the right. I crouched down and placed both hands on his left hoof.

The energy began flowing strongly, and I settled in. After a bit I saw Picasso cross his back legs rather like a human would when relaxing. I looked at his person and she said, “He does that when he gets comfortable.” Excellent, he was enjoying the Reiki.

A little more time passed and I felt this heavy weight settle on my shoulder. It was Picasso—he was now using my shoulder like a pillow. I did wonder how long the pillow would last—horse heads are heavy!

A little more time passed and I peeked at Picasso—he was now drooling copiously. I looked again at his person and she said, “He does that when he gets REALLY relaxed.”

Eventually the flow of energy slowed and stopped, and we stood up and said good-bye to Picasso.

As I turned and started to walk away I heard a sound behind me. Turning back I saw Picasso had stepped forward as far as the cross ties would allow him and was straining to reach me.

I walked back and asked him, “What?”

And that beautiful horse put his head over my shoulder and pulled me in for a hug—he was grateful for the Reiki. He also showed no sign of a limp.
