Mohammed Nabous has been shot and killed in Benghazi, Libya

Mohammed Nabous, of Libya Al Hurra TV, has been shot and killed by Gaddafi’s loyalist forces in Benghazi. He was fatally wounded in the head while filming the military defeat of Gaddafi’s forces.

Mohammed Nabous was an inspiration to all of us. His courage in the face of danger was beyond the call of duty for any journalist, yet he gladly risked his life to get the truth to the outside world. He will be sadly missed by his wife, family, colleagues, and all those who followed his work.

His wife, Perditta, is also pregnant with their first child.

Mohammed first came to world attention on the 19th of February 2011 when he and a small team of activists set up a live stream from Benghazi. The following video is from part of that broadcast:

Over the past month, Mohammed and his team constantly risked their lives to bring accurate news out of Benghazi and Libya, and it comes with great sadness that we have to report his death. He has paid the ultimate price for freedom, and for the truth.

Mohammed Nabous will be greatly missed by all of us.
