Painting Sunsets

Hi everyone,

I’ve spent the last three weeks packing, moving, unpacking and organizing. Painting has been put on hold. Come Jan 12 I will be starting to set up the Celebration of Fine Art. But wait…I’m not ready. I still need to get some painting done. So, today was back to the easel.  I’m painting different sizes of sunsets right now. Below are two sunsets.

Orange Glow  9″ x 12″ oil

This painting is painted on a panel. It will be framed in the traditional custom frame that I use. I used the Gamblin Radiant colors in the sky, working from warm to cool.

Yellow Sun      9″ x 12″ oil

I painted this one on a wood 2″ thick boxed panel. The 2″ thick sides will be paint black. I’ll be framing this one and a few more this year in contemporary black floating frames. I’ll see how it goes. I felt with my paintings loosening up a bit and with the texture that they could be framed in a simple, contemporary style.

I recently painted a sunset for a friend as a gift. She prefers a simple, contemporary style, so I tried it and liked the look. As soon as this dries and I’m able to frame it, I’ll take a photo of the painting.
