Sir Michael Havers, seen here in 1965, is accused of leaking Bloody Sunday information

Former Attorney General Sir Michael Havers is today accused of passing on state secrets to a rent boy in the aftermath of a sordid sex party in Westminster.

The Northern Ireland lad, now 59, claims the top Tory told him of bombshell top-level decisions that led to the 1972 Bloody Sunday massacre.

He says Havers “squeezed” him as he told him of private discussions that made clear what Prime Minister Ted Heath thought about the Derry shootings in which 14 people died.

The former rent boy , who was then 20, said he listened in awe as Havers began spilling secrets to him just three years after the massacre following one of the debauched parties now at the centre of the Westminster MPs sex scandal.

Now a dad of four living back in Derry, he revealed: “When Sir Michael learned I left Ireland for London in the aftermath of the Bloody Sunday massacre to build a new life he was fascinated.

“And when he found out I was from Derry he was even more intrigued and started to tell me information about what went on that day and passed on details of private conversations.

“Even then, as a young man, I could not believe someone like him would disclose details like that in such an environment. Looking back, his behaviour really was extraordinary.”

The rent boy, who we are calling David, says Havers told him how he held secret conversations with Lord John Widgery, the then Lord Chief Justice of England.

Daily Record

Havers reportedly leaked Prime Minister Ted Heath’s opinions on the Derry shootings

It was Widgery who conducted the original – and now discredited – inquiry into the killings that took place during a protest march against internment.

“Sir Michael said Lord Widgery had told him that the Prime Minister blamed the Army for what happened,” said David.

“He said Heath had been persuaded by commanders on the ground in Derry that soldiers should be ‘sent in hard’ on the day of the march.

“The plan, Sir Michael told me, was to give ‘Derry a bloody nose, not a Bloody Sunday’. Sir Michael said Mr Heath had ‘reluctantly agreed to the plan’ and deeply regretted it.

“Sir Michael then just shrugged and said Lord Widgery had put the matter to bed. He then gave me a squeeze and said: ‘Sorry old boy’.”

Havers was to become a hate figure in the eyes of the IRA. They bombed his house in 1981 in revenge for him prosecuting the Guildford Four
and the Maguire Seven.

Now these new allegations about the Attorney General, who died in 1995, raise fresh questions about his conduct during his time in office.

Havers was also Attorney General at the height of alleged sexual abuse scandal in the 1980s. And he is believed to have tried to stop Tory MP Geoffrey Dickens using parliamentary privilege to name diplomat Sir Peter Hayman as a paedophile.

Havers was accused of a “whitewash” after failing to prosecute Sir Peter, a member of the notorious Paedophile Information Exchange.

Havers’ sister Baroness Butler-Sloss was originally selected to head up the new government inquiry into the Westminster abuse claims, but has now stepped down. In a statement she said she “did not sufficiently consider” whether her family links would cause difficulties in the inquiry.

David, now an office worker, disclosed claims about Havers after telling the Sunday Mirror of his alleged ordeal within one Westminster sex ring.

He claimed that he arrived in England 40 years ago only to be blackmailed into sleeping with a number of senior Tories.

He is now planning to submit a statement to the inquiry and has met Labour MP Tom Watson who is campaigning on behalf of victims
