Zecharia Sitchin’s Research Just a Matter of Interpretation Says Fortean Author Robert Steven Thomas

I recently had the opportunity to ask Robert Steven Thomas some questions about his book Intelligent Intervention: The Missing Link in the History of Human Evolution.

Russell Scott – You have cited (along with countless others) Zecharia Sitchin as a credible interpreter of Sumerian history. What are your thoughts on Sitchin’s work and what is your defense for the skeptics who believe him to have been a writer of ‘fairy tales’?

Robert Steven Thomas – “Skeptics,” no matter how well educated or how many degrees, are simply people with an opinion. Opinions are things that people use to communicate with in absence of facts. Actually, there are almost no legitimate critics of Sitchin’s translation of the earliest human writing that has been discovered through archeology and is now available in manyof the world’s museums. That is for good reason. Sitchin was one of only approximately 200 people in the world over the last century who learned how to translate original Sumerian cuneiform. The cuneiform clay tablets that deal directly with Sumerian history are not extensive. They are primarily the Enuma Elish, Atrahasis and Epic of Gilgamesh. Each of these books are fairly short and limited by today’s standards. The original “words” themselves in these texts are fairly uniform and well established by all concerned. Also, their transliteration into other languages – English, French, etc, is not very much in dispute at all by experts.

What is “in dispute” is not the actual translation or specific words themself, it is the interpretation. Modern academics and scientists are loath to concede direct evidence from Sumerian history which implies an advanced alien presence in human history. So to them, Sitchin’s “interpretation” of the words is false. They “choose” to accept a different interpretation by claiming the words merely represent a “myth” and are not based on real human history. However, other than their opinions, the Establishment has never brought any direct evidence or fact into the discussion which commands any respect for their opinion.
