‘Frustrated’ Madoff Now Second-Guessing His Guilty Plea

Bernie Madoff continues to write to CNBC from prison, and has taken issue about trustee Picard’s allegation that he didn’t do anything to help recover money for his clients.  He also says the banks were complicit in his fraud.

Quote:

“You should be aware that I have continued to offer Picard information concerning the complicity of the banks.  I was the only person in my firm that dealt with the officers that handled my account.  Not Frank (DiPascali, a Madoff lieutenant who has pleaded guilty to fraud charges) nor anyone else.  I have little doubt that the information I could provide would clearly demonstrate the vital role JPMorgan and other major banks played in carrying out my fraud, including their role in handling the accounts of my major customers.  The ball is in his court.”

Bernie Madoff Says He Doesn’t Need ‘Credit’ for Helping Victims

Here is Madoff’s latest message in full:

For those who watched the interview of Picard and Sheehan on CNBC and the remark of the host that I was unhappy about not receiving credit for my assistance in obtaining the recoveries.  I never said anything about not receiving credit.  My comments were simply stating that I am frustrated with both of these attorneys constantly making claims and statements that are false, and nobody in the media challenging them to present the evidence they claim they have.  I would remind you all, that my statement at the start, that I believed I could help in recovering all my investors original investment principal, were met with the accusations of my being “DELUSIONAL.”

The interview that set the chain of events in motion:

Madoff and big banks complicit in fraud.

Wall Street swindler Bernard Madoff said in a magazine interview published Sunday that new regulatory reform enacted after the recent national financial crisis is laughable and that the federal government is a Ponzi scheme.

“The whole new regulatory reform is a joke,” Madoff said during a telephone interview with New York magazine in which he discussed his disdain for the financial industry and for its regulators.

The interview was published on the magazine’s website Sunday night.

Madoff did an earlier New York Times interview in which he accused banks and hedge funds of being “complicit” in his Ponzi scheme to fleece people out of billions of dollars. He said they failed to scrutinize the discrepancies between his regulatory filings and other information.

He said in the New York magazine interview the Securities and Exchange Commission “looks terrible in this thing,” and he said the “whole government is a Ponzi scheme.”
