I work in television production. In my personal opinion (which could very well be wrong) the objects in question and the videos released by the discovery channel look scripted and like the creatures in question are mere computer graphics.

If I didn’t know any better, I would think that the establishment was pushing this crap out to get gullible people who are inclined to believe in things like conspiracy theories (but who in no way represent conspiracy theories or the truth movement) so that the media and general public cab dismiss anything being labeled as a conspiracy theory by pointing back to the ignorant and gullible people who buy into this kind of thing. We already see that effective tactic with the “faked” moon-landing BS. Those who buy into the whole fake moon landing nonsense, wind up killing the truth on just about everything else. I can only presume that this too (with the mermaid theory getting widespread attention by the mainstream media) will ultimately serve the same purpose.
People believe anything these days, just take a look at what’s going around Twitter or Facebook. I don’t know what these guys’ motive was, but teaching people a bit of critical thinking about video is no bad thing – if people can question the footage of a mermaid and appreciate what can be faked, then they can begin to question government-provided footage of the serious stuff.
