Yogi Levitates In Front Of 150 Witnesses, No Props Or Tricks Discovered

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Did ancients possess knowledge from civilizations that have been lost to science?  There are many stories of people levitating throughout history.  One from the modern era concerns the Yogi Pullavar.

Yogi Pullavar, also known as Subbayah Pullavar, was an Indian man who on 6 June 1936 was reported to have levitated into the air for four minutes in front of a crowd of 150 witnesses.

Yogi’s feat was publicly observed and photographed in an exhibition that occurred in South India. The feat was executed around noon on a sunny, cloudless day and in an area where visibility was not obscured. The Illustrated London News printed the story and photos which were taken from various angles by P. T. Plunkett who was a witness present that day and scrutinized the entire event.

Yogi Pullavar’s assistants erected a small tent in an open area where Pullavar began by ritualistically pouring a circle of water around the perimeter of the tent. Shoes were not permitted within the area marked by the circle. Yogi Pullavar then entered the tent where he remained hidden from view for a few minutes, after which the attendants then removed the tent. Once revealed, Yogi Pullavar was seen suspended horizontally several feet above the ground. He was in a trance, lightly resting his hand on top of a cloth covered stick.

It was asserted by witnesses present that Yogi did not exert pressure on the stick for support, but instead used it as a point of reference. Many photographs were taken from various angles of this exhibition and witnesses present were permitted to thoroughly examine the levitation. They meticulously searched for strings, props and any means of possible support above, below and around the levitating Pullavar, however nothing was found.

After four minutes the attendants erected the tent around Yogi Pullavar to shield him as he made his descent. P.Y. Plunkett positioned himself so that the sunlight enabled him to discern Pullavar through the thin cloth tent walls. He reported noticing Yogi Pullavar gently swaying for a short time while still in mid-air. Finally, he slowly sank in a horizontal position to the ground. The entire process took an estimated five minutes to complete.

When the tent was again removed, Yogi Pullavar was lying on the ground, still in a deep trance. Volunteers were asked to try to bend Pullavar’s limbs. His arms and legs could not be bent from their locked position. Attendants had to splash water on Yogi Pullavar and rub him down for five minutes before he finally came out of his trance and was once again able to use his limbs.

Historically, there have been many other accounts of people levitating. Within a large diversity religions, ranging from Western Christians to the Eastern Ninjas of Japan, many reports have emerged regarding levitatation. Such instances of witnessed levitation include Milarepa, a great thirteenth century yogi of Tibet, who is said to have levitated before a group. The most persistent records of levitations are among Christians who have documented such events and indicate that over 200 of their Catholic Saints have been credited with levitating.

Many religions tell stories of levitation.   Some of the best records of levitation are told in Christian documents which report  over 200 Catholic Saints levitated.  Milarepa, the great thirteenth century yogi of Tibet  also had he ability to levitate. The Ninja of Japan also reportedly  mastered levitation.  Some believe the builders of the megalithic monuments and the pyramids may have levitated the stones for those ancient monuments.

After mastering the materials science, a mechanical engineer has mastered yoga postures to elevate his body up in the air winning the appreciation of one and all. The 24-year-old Venkata Panindra, an assistant professor in an engineering college performed “Vandana treyam” by locking the air in histhroat, stomach and perennial gland at a packed TTD Kalyana Mandapam here during the Sadhus meet that concluded on earlier this year (February 2013) accorrding to Ashish Kumar Sansaniin the Hindu.

“It took six months to learn the yoga posture mentioned in Bhagavad Gita under the guidance of Sri Yogananda Bharati from Vizianagaram”, says the youth, an M.tech in Mechanical Engineering, while talking to The Hindu. “I got fascinated with yogasanas during my childhood itself,” says the yogi who has mastered different yoga and Pranayama techniques, winning acclaim from sadhus and laymen as well. He wants to explore the Patanjali yoga system fully and propagate the greatness of the “Hindu way of life” so that the present generation gets benefited, he adds.

Majic may seem like fun but practicing black majic will roast your buns ! Good call !

Don’t understand all the hostile comments towards the idea of someone having a more advanced understanding of their body and surroundings than the average zombie who watches 6 hours of TV a day..
Seems plausible. I’ve had dreams of levitation- where I woke up incredibly stiff. This resonates with me personally. Thanks for the story.

When you come to a fork in the road, take it. ”Yogi.”

      POPPYCOCK!

The support post is covered by the ‘dangling’ robe!

The ‘trick’ is as old as India (where I saw it and saw it exposed) … the bottom shot is a very good photoshop …

No one cares about the opinion of an Akurian. You people are trash.

I’ve studied/practiced close-up magic & stage illusion for many years. Sadly, all of these photos are derivative of those secrets. Loose clothing and holding onto a stick… tsk, tsk. Literally one of the oldest tricks around…

The last photo is either photo-shopped or it was taken during a “levitation exercise” in which the person sits cross-legged and hops up and down like a frog in attempts of stimulating “levitation lift-off”.

Is real levitation possible? I don’t know, I’ve never been successful. ….and neither have the people in these pictures…

    • DavidGordon

Sorry kids. This trick is generally pulled on naive Indian villagers in the past. There is a metal rod running out of the ground, up his sleeve to a platform that he is laying or sitting on. Note how in both examples the hand remains so placed. Also, note that the contrivance was assembled in a tent then revealed. Then the tent is returned and the guy gets off.

The guy in the other photo is at the top of his butt-leap and if it were video (not the one still of many that captured this moment at apogee) you would see him butt-hopping like mad.

There is spiritual magic in the world but this is not it. Of course they charge admission to such feats which should be your first clue.

    • CplAwesome

 It is a good trick. So good that it is still in use around the world today.

    • desertspeaks

all but the last picture has already been proven to be FRAUD! the cane had a platform attached to it! The last picture shows a man allegedly levitating, HOWEVER it has been taken out of context!
The man is REPEATEDLY jumping from and while in a seated position into the air and the picture is taken whilst he is airborne and thus the entire levitation scam has been shown to be the FRAUD that it is!

    • Anonymous

LOL that cain is a pole seat and the other guy is frog hopping
Who ever posted this is a moron

The title is a lie and the video exposes the fraud so why post this garbage, Alton Parish?

    • Jester

lol did you even watch the video? It basically debunks the levitation claim

    • Anonymous

Doh! I believe in levitation, but if there is anything touching the ground like a cane or hanging clothe, it probably hides a strong post-type support for the platform the phony is lying on or sitting on. Common magic trick, not real levitation. Probably the few yogis who can really levitate would never allow their pic taken; too humble, that is why they could have such a power.

No humility? No willingness to do God’s will? No great yogic powers.

    • LightandLife

LOL on another video he shows people how he does it… it is FAKE

    • damian

for those who believe no proof is needed , for those who do not no proof is enough.

    • Jeffery Pritchett

Yeah no props. Except the staff he’s holding that never leaves the ground, and goes right up to his sleeve.

The color pic of the cross legged guy, he’s just bouncing with a well timed photo. People that do that claim they stay in the air a little longer than a normal bounce, but it’s just momentum.

    • Jeffery Pritchett

A more advanced version of the same trick

      http://www.relativelyinteresting.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/2-person-levitation-act-street-performer.jpg

How’s it’s achieved, even with 2 people, in the 2 person variant the platform attaches to the cross bar up the bottom guys sleeve:

      http://www.relativelyinteresting.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/levitating-street-performer-magic-trick-revealed.jpg

Now go believe in old magic tricks somewhere else.
