WATCH: Sinkhole Devours Trees in Louisiana
Video shows a sinkhole swallows a tree in Louisiana, according to an Aug. 22 UPI report.
In the dramatic footage from Assumption Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness, the sinkhole opens and swallows 25 huge trees in mere seconds. This video is the first footage of the sinkhole in action.
This Louisiana sinkhole is giant. It already covers 24 acres, and it is growing. It originally opened in August 2012, so it has been swallowing land for a year at this point.
Authorities are monitoring this sinkhole to ensure that people in the area remain safe. At least 350 Bayou Corne have evacuated due to this sinkhole because it could be a danger to their homes.
