Discovery Of Ancient Egyptian Temple Changes History

Maria Nilsson and John Ward discuss their recent find, the unearthing of a long forgotten temple at the famed Gebel el Silsila. The site, location being around 40 miles north of Aswan, was one of the incredible quarries of the ancient world, with Egyptian factions using its stone sources from the New Kingdom era (16th century BC) right till the Roman times. Maria and John will delve into what they and their team have uncovered. Was this site more than just a quarry? Or was it also a sacred location with dedicated religious structures.

Dr. Maria Nilsson Dr. Maria Nilsson, archaeologist and Mission Director of the Gebel el Silsila Epigraphic Survey Project and Lead Archaeologist at Gebel el Silsila, Egypt. Following the disputation on her doctoral thesis on Hellenistic Queen Arsinoë II’s crown at Gothenburg University in 2010 Maria now focuses her research on the relatively new topic “pseudo script”, primarily Ptolemaic and Roman quarry marks in Gebel el Silsila, Egypt. That research has now lead her to the new discovery of the lost Temple of Khenu at Gebel el Silsila, where with John Ward and her phenomenal team, they are continuing to make discoveries and expand the preservation of the site and its antiquities.  

John Richard Ward John Ward is an ancient historian, archaeologist, explorer, adventurer, author, professional Dowser, radio host and father, residing in Luxor, Egypt. Having published, presented, lectured and given workshops on his numerous articles and papers concerning his researches, John has conducted innumerable investigations pertaining to ancient Egyptian architecture and symbolism, while also carrying out research into the many mysteries surrounding medieval Templarism, the esoteric, hermetic and alchemetical teachings, and innumerable other subjects associated with ancient symbolism. Paying particular attention to the various pseudo religious/spiritual groups, secret societies, families, monarchies, and other such like notable institutions, that have governed, and regulated mankind throughout history.   Ward and Nilsson are currently surveying Egypt’s largest ancient sandstone quarries of Gebel el Silsila, south of Luxor on the Nile, officially cataloging the vast epigraphic material that has been left by man over thousands of years. John is the Assistant Director and is responsible for the topographical documentation of the ancient quarries; in particular the various techniques employed by the ancient Egyptians during the extraction and transportation processes. Maria and John are the founding trustees for the Friends of Silsila, a charitable organization that will hopefully continue to support and fund archaeological expeditions to Silsila, enabling further conservation work to take place, securing the future of this unique ancient site.
