Can you hit a golf ball one mile? Would you bet a million dollars that I can't?

Can you hit a golf ball one mile?  If I were to bet you a million dollars that in certain conditions I could hit a golf ball one mile would you take my bet?  I am not going to bet real money but if I did I know I would win. Let me lay out the conditions and you can decide if you still want to bet. 

At about 4 pm on a summer day you are out golfing at your favourite golf course and reach a par 3 hole and the sign says that it is 130 yards from the tee box to the hole.  As you stand on the tee box and face the green the sun is behind you and starting it’s descent but still high enough in the sky so you can clearly see the green.  There are no shadows on the green or between the tee box and the green.  It’s a clear warm sunny day with only a slight breeze.  A very typical perfect day for golf.  You tee off, hit a really high shot probably with a wedge club which stays up in the air for about 3 1/2 seconds and lands on the green a few inches away from the hole.  Great Shot.  At this point how much would you bet me that even though the hole is only 130 yards you actually hit the golf ball approximately one mile?  Btw…this is Not a trick question, the winner will be declared by factual evidence.  Once you have decided how much you would bet read on and let’s see who will win the bet. 

I know that it appears to you that you hit the ball 130 yards.  It was a high shot and you actually saw the ball with your own eyes go up through the air and land on the green.  The ball was never out of sight.  But what actually happened during those 3 1/2 seconds that the ball was in the air is what you are not taking into account.  As I told you, when you stood on the tee box and looked at the green the sun was at your back.  The sun sets in the west, therefore you were facing east.  This matters.  Why?  Because scientists tell us that the earth rotates from west to east.  How fast does the earth rotate?  (You can verify all these numbers and information because this is what NASA and scientists tell us).  The earth rotates at 1040 mph at the equator.  For our discussion and location let’s say it’s 1000 mph which translates to 500 yards per second.  So using the information that scientists tell us we know that the earth rotates from west to east at 1000 mph or 500 yps or 1500 fps.  Using this information let’s analyze what happened during the 3 1/2 seconds that the ball was in the air.  During that time, right after you hit the ball into the air, the earth moved one mile from west to east.  So when the ball landed on the green it looked like it only travelled 130 yards but it actually travelled one mile.  Since you were the only one that hit the ball into the air and because the ball did land on the green, you actually hit the ball one mile.  That’s because the earth moved one mile while the ball was in the air.  So I did win the bet because the ball did travel one mile and you were the only one that hit it, so you hit the ball one mile. 

Now…what caused the golf ball to move one mile while it was in the air?   Obviously you cannot hit the ball one mile neither can any pro golfer.  So what caused it to travel one mile through the air?  If the ball was on the ground that is easy to understand because scientists tell us that everything on the earth moves with the earth.  But what happens when the ball is in the air?  Does it also move at the same speed as the earth?  And if so what propels it that distance?  Not the golfer or the golf club, so what does?  The one mile calculation is accurate you can verify that with simple math.  So what moved the golf ball one mile?  Was it the air?  No there was only a slight breeze.  So what was it?  Our observation tells us that the golf ball travelled 150 yards or less.  Seventy five yards up and seventy five yards down in a half oval trajectory but certainly not one mile.  So how is this possible?  Well it’s really very simple.

The reason I knew I would win the bet is because I don’t live on a spinning globe.  I live on the earth that God created. It’s relatively flat and stationary.  It doesn’t spin so we don’t have to calculate anything.  We have some real awesome golf courses and when we hit the golf ball 130 yards we watch it go up and down and land on the green.  Very simple.  But if you believe that you live on a spinning globe then you have to calculate the earth’s rotation for every shot.   Like when you hit the ball towards the west?  Then the earth is moving east towards the golf ball a lot faster than the golf ball is moving west.  You see how difficult that becomes?  And what if you hit the golf ball North and it ends up one mile East? How does that happen?
