LAKEHURST — Residents in the communities surrounding Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst should expect to hear “potential ground shaking” booms from range training through Sunday, base officials announced today.

“Residents may hear more noise than usual coming from the ranges,” according to a statement issued by the base. “It is important to note that noise from the ranges may travel farther during overcast weather conditions.”

The training was scheduled to start today and should continue through the weekend between the hours of 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.

The 42,000-acre joint base, which spans Burlington and Ocean counties, last hosted demolitions training from Feb. 22 to 24 that shook homes as far away as Mercer, Monmouth and Camden counties, prompting some police departments to issue advisories.

This weekend’s range training involves the 3rd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment; the Marine Wing Support Squadron 472; and the 2nd Battalion 25th Marine Regiment from Garden City, N.Y.

“This training is essential and helps to ensure the readiness of America’s fighting force,” base officials said in the statement. “Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst works hard to minimize the impact training has on its surrounding communities and is committed to remaining good neighbors.”
