Freemasons origin is in no way connected with the Templars. In fact, they are polar opposites. You can not be a Catholic and be a Freemason or vice versa.
Some backstory. The Templar order wasn’t excommunicated. The King of France killed 2 Popes, one beaten to death & the other poisoned, and then wiped out the Templars for refusing a loan to war on England. A childhood friend of the King of France was installed as Pope, which condemned the order granting the King permission to try them for whatever he made up. The few survivors went to Countries that were enemies of or unknown to France.
It’s not the first time a government has killed Christians, starting with Jesus and the first Pope, Peter. In any case, the Masons were formed by a group of Europeans from France, Germany, and England. They were protestants with a penchant for Herod Agrippa, as their goal was to destroy the Roman Catholic Church. They failed.
By the way, if you want to meet modern Knights of that order, go to Malta. They’re still around and they still maintain the same ceremonies. The Hospitalers Order is the 2nd and complimentary order to the Knights that survives intact to this day.
I’m curious then. How is it that my grandfather was in the knights Templar as well as a mason? I have the original documents showing this quite clearly.
Jack you are correct in most respects, the Templars were not excommunicated, but exterminated! King Philip was already at war with England & was in debt to the Templars up to his eyeballs. There was no way he could or would pay it back. The Pope wanted control of the Templars & their money. Philips trumped up charges against the Templars & with the blessing of the Pope they attacked & murdered the Templars on Friday the 13th, Oct. 1307. What was left of the Templars fled to Scotland. As for a “connection” between the Templars & the Masons…very slim! As for Catholic & Free Masons, I think not! I know many Masons who are Catholic.
