so do road side billboards, ads on the side of city buses, and every time you walk into the store and look at all the stuff they put out at the registers for you to make an impulse purchase……
The internet is much more user controllable than the tv and unlike tv the internet is not wholly controlled by corporate and political interests.
I gave up on tv because even if I find shows that I deem appropriate for me to watch with my children present, the commercials are unpredictable, full of filth and mind numbing propaganda IMO. I used to just mute in the past but since they are avid readers now, muting will not suffice. The only option for me is the power button. Either to turn it off or to not have turned it on in the first place.
Thank God for netflix, I can watch older tv shows that I know are relatively safe without commercials attempting to zap our brains with BS. Every time their is a pause in the show where a commercial would normally be I joke and say “buy our stuff” It doesn’t get much of a laugh anymore though.
Perhaps more importantly, the children aren’t attracted to the computer screen (like a moth to flame) when I am reading or typing on the computer as they are to the television no matter what is on.
