Ahh at first I thought this was a hoax but it is a real story. Mainly a problem in China the eggs aren’t sold in stores just at markets by peddlers or so says a Time article.
Reminds me of people cutting or selling fake drugs. geez. Who ever thought we would get to a point where Eggs were being counterfeited…Freaky.
There’s a point that people should just be executed where they stand. Faking an egg is one of those places. Seriously, we are not short of chickens. Chickens are CHEAP to raise. You get 1-egg per day per chicken in most places, so output is decent. WHY do you think you need to fake a chicken egg?
A co-worker has a large brood of chickens, and I know exactly where my eggs come from – down to naming the earthworms and mosquitoes that the chicken chases to make those eggs. If you think I won’t shoot a chicken that I catch counterfeiting an egg, you are out of your mind. She will then find out what a GOOD chicken nugget is all about.
We should sell more of these in America.

Sadly, this story is for real. Several stories are out on it. Leave it to the Chinese to replace a common food with chemicals. Research it.

Eggs are the only real food that I have noticed a problem with over the last decade. They are smaller now, and less flavourful. I used to be able to crack an egg with one hand, as I’d learned from the chefs on TV. I can no longer do that. I can barely crack an egg without getting tiny pieces of shell shrapnel in the bowl/pan. Also, eggs have begun to give me indigestion. They used to be a regular staple in my diet. In addition, I’ve noticed that the colour of the yolks is far too varied to be considered natural, and the texture of the whites in a simple fried egg seem slightly off.
Then get a small coop and a couple of hens and enjoy fresh eggs like you remember. The commercial egg industry tries to crank out as much product as possible while expending the least amount of money. This often times leads to unnatural things being done to the chickens and the eggs. Some of which are questionable when health and quality are concerned. There will come a time when you are going to have to supply your own food anyway, so you might as well get a jump on things.
Try looking for free range if you can’t produce your own eggs, Its annoying most of the organic and free range eggs come in plastic an Styrofoam which drives me nuts
Remember cage free, only means the cages are not locked but the chickens are fed in the cages and encouraged to stay there.
They use fake sunlight’s to encourage egg production which is no substitute for real sun light and fresh air. At least free range chickens get out side or can move around at least a little bit.
I’m not going to get into the antibiotics and such in conventional eggs because we all already know.
The first time I catch one of my hens laying one of these fake eggs it’s off to the chopping block for her. When her head is cut off and sparks start flying from her neck then I don’t know what I’ll do. Grab a fire extinguisher I guess.
